I haven't ridded this way for several weeks (been doing the RAC building/Parliment House route), but came across this at around 6:30pm this evening:
Anyone know why this is blocking the shared path and how long it has been there? It is right next to the future Perth Arena. Another section you may want to avoid if this continues.

Thanks for the heads up Roland, I used the path on Tuesday night to head out to the Coast via Subi so I assume this happened on Wed?
I'll check it out this morning when I head over the bridge next to the Entertainment Centre.
Cheers,
Gary

I heard back from the City of Perth today on this matter:
Good on the City of Perth to acknowledge and act on this issue so quickly. Hopefully this was a once off.To facilitate the demotion works of pedestrian overpass between Albert Facey House and the Horseshoe Bridge the City of Perth has approved the temporary closure of Wellington Street, between Barrack and William Streets, week night closures from 7pm to 5am the following morning and weekend closure from 9pm Friday 5 to 5am Monday 8 February 2010.
As part of this road closure Variable Message Boards are placed at various intersection and freeway to inform the motorist of this road closure. One is on Wellington Street to divert the motorists through Milligan Street. Unfortunately traffic management people put the sign on the shared path and obstructing the way. Now I have contacted the traffic management people and advised them to move the Variable Message Boards to another location without obstructing the shared path.
I would like to take this opportunity to thanks you for bringing this matter into my attention. If you have any queries regarding this please contact me on 9461 3168.

And On yer Roland! Well done on taking some positive action of these issues. People like you make it easier for cyclists to get around Perth. Without you bringing it to the attention of the PCC, nothing would have been done to rectify the problem.ColinOldnCranky wrote:'On yer Perth City.

Thanks Graeme and others for your comments. I may have spat the dummy though today, as the City West area was a real mess this morning, including closure of the dedicated cycle lane on Thomas Rd and lots of workers/cyclist/pedesdrians making the shared path almost unusable, which generated another e-mail to City of Perth again. They must hate me but come on, give us plenty of warning and don't block the cycle lane, and not two in the same week in different areas for the same reason (ie misplaced diversion sign).
To top it off, I thought I would go home a different route, when someone had pulled up a man-hole on the footpath leading to the Entertainment Centre overpass. Witches hats all around the area, but the work undertaken was at least 50% of the path (yes it is a footpath, but how else do you get to the overpass bridge?). Access to Perth from the North is very poor at this time.
PS I taking a chill pill next.
