Perth rides lately

One tree farrington rd to south st, black cockatoos were feeding off the honkynut, you can guess where they ended up  All over one section of Kwinana Fwy PSP. Lucky I was in my trike so just flew thru them, didn't look like much of a path for a roadie...

Honky nuts + trike = trike drifting. Please go back to the PSP and do it properly Mr Baalzamon. Lock those brakes.

Did the 100km Foothills Cruise Audax, saw bikes everywhere. Nice day, even got a northerly tailwind.

was great after the first few kms and warmed up! no real difference than the 4/5/6 deg mornings we've been having as far as i'm concerned. still warm enough for shorts

what i have enjoyed most have been the innovative ways people have been covering up their faces. a guy last week looked like he'd just robbed a bank - black balaclava, with the tiny holes for the eyes & mouth, with a helmet on top. spotted colin on his uni with a similar getup. a bloke this morning had a scarf tied around his face, covering all but one of his eyes.

I had planned to do a 50km ride this morning before work with a mate... woke up at 5:30am per my alarm, checked the weather, saw this:

25/05:30am 0.8 -1.1
25/05:00am 0.7 -1.2
25/04:30am 1.0 -0.9
25/04:00am 1.1 -0.8
25/03:30am 1.4 -0.4
25/03:00am 1.4 -0.5
25/02:30am 1.8 0.0

Promptly messaged my mate that I wasn't so keen anymore, he agreed and I went back to sleep.

Still road into work though!

I have to admit that it was a bit cold this morning. wore 2 pairs of gloves and still couldn't keep my fingers warm.
I'd be interested if anyone else finds that synthetic gloves just dont cut it. I have no problem at -15c skiing with leather gloves but freeze with synthetic ones.
Ever since the vasectomy...I mostly ride fixed.

Totally agree - I went for a longer morning last thursday (when the apparent temperature was also minus something) and took a minute or so to get my synthetic long fingered gloves off because there was no blood in my hands and my fingers didn't want to work!

Funny that you mention skiing as you've just reminded me that I have a pair of ski gloves in the cupboard somewhere, may have to give them a go.

You know it's cold when it hurts your fingers trying to shift up on the front chain rings!

I've really gotta put my Altura Nightvision gloves to the test. They haven't faced minus temps yet as I wake up 5:20am crap it's cold and try to go back to sleep and have failed miserably at that this past 2 weeks lol.
So might as well give them a crack tomorrow.

Left my jacket at home this morning. Bad move. Skin was red on the chest by the time I got home.

About a month ago I had a chain-snap incident which left me with mild-hypothermia as I waited for my rescue crew to arrive at 1degree temp.
Got sick, passed it on to family etc.

Since then I haven't been game enough to hit the commute at these low temps, so I bought a trainer and struggling to find the motivation to get on that also!
Doesn't help that my morning commute starts on Jandakot Rd!

So a bit of a lull for me unfortunately. Hopefully it will start to creep above 5 soon and I'll get on it.

Thats my excuse anyway.

Went on the trainer this morning, felt colder than yesterday although technically warmer? If my hr dropped below 140 then could almost start shivering from the cold lol.

I've been doing well in these temps of late. I have some thermal riding gloves, over-shoes, beanie, track pants and jumper. The only thing that gets cold still is my fingers. Some ski gloves would fix that, so I'll get those for next winter.

The only problem with rugging up so much is that by the end of my journey, if I go fast then I'm pouring with sweat but my fingers are still frozen. Sometimes I strip off once I've warmed up.

Cold weather aside, this Winter has been terrific to actually get the bike out since we've had such little rain fall, I've only got my trainer out a few times, and if it has been raining I've been riding so much i can just have the odd rainy day as a rest day.

It's been nearly a fortnight that I have had a ride other than the bare essential to the train due to the dreaded lurgy.

Got out today and the weather is certainly easy this winter. 40kms and it didn't seem hard at all. Sunny. NO wind. Pleasantly warm in the sun (and it was ALL sunshine). Light traffic.

Into the last 200km before my BIG number too. :D

If you have no reason not to then tomorrow in Perth will be another great day for walking, riding, kicking a footy, ...

Driest July on record was it?

Glorious afternoon right now, the lack of strong winds seems foreign.
