Blinded by the sun

Postby bradwoodbr » Thu Mar 17, 2011 1:24 pm

On each of these last two mornings I have witnessed cyclists having very near misses with cars
entering Mill Point Rd.
Hence my warning that - if you are travelling West on Mill Point Road,
from Way Rd to Douglas Ave, between 7:00am and 8:00am, be more carerful than normal.
Drivers looking East to join Mill Point West will be blinded by the sun and, from observations, find it very difficult to see cyclists in the cycle lane.
The issue is repeated daily, but East to West between 5:00pm and 6:00pm.
As this will always be an issue for cyclists twice a day everyday on this part of Mill Point Rd,
an alternative route could be the South Perth cycle path less than 500m away from Mill Point Rd.

It is not just that location. On the way to work depending on what time I leave home I will have an issue with sun blinding on a section for 1km and I'm watching my mirror quite closely when I know drivers are being blinded as I am. Coming home same issue and along the same stretch of road. It's going to be like this until lights will be required.
