G'day
Catherine Swift, Rockingham Travel Smart Officer, warns that cycling conditions are likely to be changeable and potentially hazardous around the end of the freeway, due to construction works of the new Perth to Bunbury Highway.
What is going to happen?
The shared path at the end of the Kwinana Freeway in Baldivis will be temporarily closed as a result detours will be put in place for cyclists and pedestrians travelling in the area. Those travelling south and wanting to access the roundabout at Safety Bay Road & Baldivis Roads can do so via Zig Zag and Baldivis Road, alternatively those wanting to travel further west can do so via Zig Zag and Eighty Road. Cyclists and pedestrians wanting to travel north on the shared path can do so via Eighty or Baldivis Road entering at Zig Zag Road.
Why is it going to happen?
The south and northbound traffic lanes at the end of the Kwinana Freeway in Baldivis will be temporarily closed therefore traffic will be diverted to the west onto temporary lanes allow for the construction of the Safety Bay Road interchange as part of the New Perth Bunbury Highway. The subsequent impact is that the temporary lanes will encroach onto the shared path and in order to ensure the safety of cyclists and pedestrians the path at this point will be closed and users will be detoured around this area.
Thanks to the BTAWA for the notice.
Regards
Andrew
