Perth weather

winter commuting gear = summer clothing + skins top. although with it being close to 0deg the last few days, i have relented and worn some MTB gloves.

growing up in NZ prob helps me deal with the cold a little better than most.

For sure. Growing up in Darwin probably doesn't help me deal with the cold... :(

I need to be rugged up to step outside in this weather; I don't mind be a little warmer at the end of the ride.

Any tips for cold toes? I don't have booties yet...

Toe warmers helped me alot, failing that, some sandwhich bags over your socks will help, no joke!

Where did you get that from?
My weather forecast predicts 4C, it's already been colder than that in the last few days.

Balmy! I think it's already been that cold up the hill these past couple of days. Looking forward to wearing my new winter jersey tomorrow, should be nice and toasty with a long sleeve merino underneath. Wish I could say the same about my fingers and toes - they generally don't defrost before lunch time D:

Left the house at 5.30 this morning and thought I'd give it a go wearing one less layer today....
I immediately regretted my decision...
Still thawing out my toes.
I think Monday was colder though...

Monday morning was colder than this morning's ride in. However its still nice watching the sun rise up over the east as you ride up the FWY south.

I have added a third fleecy layer between gillette and shower jacket this week and am now toasty on my body. Long fingered gloves feel like they are doing nothing for the first 5km or so but once the blood starts flowing they feel fine. Thermal socks and toe covers still leave my toes a bit cold after 75 minutes in the saddle but at least I regain feeling after 15 minutes rather than 2 hours. You'd think I would suffer with cold ears with like mine but they are fine. Knees feel a bit stiff in knicks, but I will live with that.

The sun usually comes up about half way in (Warwick) and then its glorious.

I did bust out the gloves for the first 20 mintutes but it was beautiful this morning, it's "could ride all day if didn't have to go to work" weather.

<3 you perth, don't ever change.

Yep, Monday felt the coldest so far this week (just checked, it was, at 2.1ºC). I doubled-socked it this morning, that worked well enough not to worry about overshoes.

I guess I was the only one who sported a scarfe wrapped around my neck and tucked into the jersey this morning :)

I had a tube-sock coverin gthe bottom of my head and face and a beanie on the top. And it stayed that way until I got inside work at 8am. Also leather gloves this time instead of the woven ones. The fingers were stil brittle a minute after I stepped into the shower. :(

Unlike recent cold starts, the temp stayed the same the whole way in (it normally gets warmer as I approach perth and the river).

This (frost) is what greeted me as I left at 5am. Brrrr.

Someone bought me a fleecy neck gaiter that is used when skiing. Now it is used when cycling in this weather!! I'm a wuss...not happy until its over 35 and totally frozen when it's below 20.

You've all led me astray! After being in Broome for the weekend and start of this week, I was back on the bike this morning.. Bib knicks, thermal long johns, thermal short sleeve t-shirt, long sleeve MTB jersey, thin wind-breaker vest and thick gloves ... Too warm! Could have quite comfortably got by without any of the thermal gear..

Yep- I had to do the furtive removal of clothing behind a bush this morning a third of the way in- of course had a couple of middle aged woman wander past with a dog.

Thought I was hidden from sight until I saw the rear light still flashing away illuminating me... oh well  at least the weather wasn't too nipply

Haha, yeah, it was a warm one. I didn't check before I left and wore my usual gear. I was sweating by the time I got to work.

 I have tried to be discrete in the past too. I realised it's hard when you are wearing high-vis gear and you forget to turn your light off!
