Hi
The Audax ride, The Smelly Welly which is being offered in two distances of 100 km and 200 km is being held on Saturday November 5, 2011. The ride starts at 8:00 AM from southern side of the North Bannister Roadhouse. The roadhouse is south of Perth (about 1.5 hours drive) on Albany Highway.
This is my inaugural ride as a ride organiser but please don't let that put you off doing it I believe the ride at least in part may explore some new Audax riding so hopefully that is of interest.
The 200 km ride can be viewed at RidewithGPS and the 100 km here. The map as linked to on the Audax website has vanished so I have uploaded it again. The correct URL is http://ridewithgps.com/routes/798054. Sorry about that.
Both rides depart from the North Bannister Roadhouse which you will find south of Perth on the Albany Highway. There is ample parking on the southern side of the roadhouse. Google Maps suggest that it is about 1 and half hours drive from the centre of Perth so the start time has been set at 8:00 AM to allow for drive down.
The 200 km is a nice undulating ride taking in Wandering, Dryandra, Cuballing, Popanyinning and Pingelly before returning to North Bannister via Wandering. The 100 km ride also departs from North Bannister passing through Wandering before turning south towards Dwarda and then Boddington before again heading south to Marradong to make up the distance. From Marradong the the ride back tracks a little way to Boddington before the final run into North Bannister. This route does take in a bit of Albany Highway.
If you intend to complete either ride an email with your ride form in advance would be appreciated. This allows me to get the cue sheet to you before hand and to have your card completed and ready for collection at the start. If you want a GPX file for your GPS (it will provide turn by turn instructions for Garmin Edge 500 and 800 models) you can download the 100 km route at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1079188/GPX%20F ... ax_100.tcx and the 200 km route at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1079188/GPX%20F ... ax_200.tcx.
There is a $10 fee ride for non-members. On longer rides or rides where the ride may finish after sunset, lightning requirements will be applied.
Audax rides are also subject to qualifying time limits. Again further details can be found at the Audax Australia website.
For more details on Audax riding in WA please refer to this thread.
Regards
Andrew
