Round Australia < 55 days

G'day Sand Gropers
Erik Straarup from Denmark sets off tomorrow (Saturday 29th March) on his third attempt at the unsupported around Australia record.
To see his web stuff Google Lonebiker
The existing record is 55 days 17 hours 18 minutes held by Eugen Schilter from NSW.
Erik's trip will raise money for the Red Cross in Oz and DK.
I'd be there cheering him off.
Start is scheduled to 29 March 2008, 8 am, in front of "The Swan Bell Tower" Perth.

The current record holder, Eugene, is a member of DHBC, same club as Mikebytes, Othy and myself. A very strong rider at MAS6 IIRC. He doesn't know what pain is.

G'day Poit,
Welcome to the forum - I've seen you on BROL many a time, so it's good to see you found us here. There are a few 'bent riders around here too, so feel free to drop in occasionally and say hi.
I might just try and get into the Bell tower tomorrow and wish the poor bastard well. It would be hard enough to do it in a car, let alone on a bike.
Cheers,
Graeme

PS - here's a link to his web site. The first option on Google is some US Harley rider's site.
Anybody else going in and riding back to Freo? Might be a good way to catch up for an informal ride.
Cheers,
Graeme

Better hope he doesn't log all that on BikeJournal, though it is a way of getting your numbers up

If you draft off him, then you can save 30% of energy in the process.moosterbounce wrote:Better hope he doesn't log all that on BikeJournal, though it is a way of getting your numbers up

Is Eric going to break Eugene's record?
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

Im reading now. Thanks Kalgrm for your company at the start
Yes, I beleive I broke the record which I of course am proud of, but I was also lucky, so many things could go wrong, but didnt.
If anybody are interested the entire trip can be seen on google earth with distination and speed for every 250 meters. Time and km is incorrekt as they refer to Denmark.
Look at w.w.w.lonebiker.dk, click on english version on the upper left corner.
Regards
Erik

Congratulations Lonebiker, that's an amazing feat.
I saw Eugene last Sunday and forgot to mention it. Though we were busy with a race at the time.

What is your ETA for Tassie? I will probably see you somewhere on the Apple Isle if our paths cross. I'll keep my eye open for a touring tandemTandem wrote:We will be heading off at the end of August to tour around Aussie and Tassie on a Tandem. Hopefully doing it as slow as possible and taking anywhere between 12-18 mths.
