What sort of speed difference is there between the two from getting off a heaviermountian bike designed for track riding to hopping onto a much lighter road bike?

Does anyone regularly ride both and have an idea of their average speed.

are you talking about both on the road?

i'll be riding my dualie into work tomorrow, so can let you know my time vs my usual on the roadie. but either way, its definitely a lot more work keeping speed up on the dualie!

About 4Km/h or 12%. It's not so much about weight, but tyres and aero position. I've got a CX/road bike that is about the same weight as my rigid MTB, yet I'm faster on the CX/road bike on the road.

This. My heavy steel roadie is notably quicker than my lighter alloy/carbon dually. Average on roadie about 27-29. Average on MTB about 23-25 on road. MTB on slicks somewhere in between.

FWIW...

Average commute speed in the flat river sections on my dually Trek Fuel is 25-30km/h, on the Merida Reacto roadie is 35-40km/h. Thanks Strava for showing me this :D
