Hi all,

The wife and I are looking at moving up towards Woodvale and I'm interested in hearing from anyone who rides from up that way about their commute and how their training goes.

We are in Bayswater currently so I am spoiled for choice really. I ride ~ 36km each day and slot in a couple of days of 50km during the week doing laps of Kings Park. I try and get in a decent 70km solo on a weekend morning and alternate that with a group ride every fortnight.

Selfishly, I'm really concerned that riding the 25kms each way from Woodvale will be boring and that I'll hate it because it will kill all my other training (fun) time. It's also a long way from the hills and I'm not sure if there are any group rides worth while out there.

Now I'm not super fast or anything but I love my bike and I love racing on it so it's important to me to get a heads up from anyone in the know.

I live near Woodvale its a great place to ride.Close to the coast south is scenic north is hard you can go all the way to Yanchep. Inland back of Wanneroo of you want to escape. The hills are not that far away, there are shorter steep climbs all over the place.

Commute the bike path along the freeway is rough but not as silly add the south. Down the coast Early is also a nice way to get to Perth a little longer though.You could even do a lap or two of rebold the way .

Group rides there are plenty, Woodvale bike force have several groups the ride is good the shop well um um Nice day:) , Joondalup bike force really nice people good groups not super hard,.jcc good ride not as social more of a smash fest. That's just the tip of the iceberg there is a bit going on up this way.

I live in Kingsley, as Mr Moose said there is good riding to be had around our area. I ride with Malaga Cycles a lot on Saturdays who frequent the hills, although the rides tend to be "One Hill and return". To get to say Boya to go up Coulston rd and return is about a 75Km round trip from my place. I'm no commuter so my rides tend to take in the coast during the week and shoot out to the hills on the weekends.

Nice. Cheers for that. It doesn't sound too bad after all. I have two young kids so my training is my commute basically. When one of the guys here at work was telling me that the path down is !! BAN ME NOW FOR SWEARING !! and have to cross roads and it takes ten mins to cross etc it freaked me out a bit.

The path does suck and yes crossing roads is a pain but its not that bad. The coast is the way to go I think its really nice early.

Im close by in Madeley. Not too keen on the CBD path between whitfords ave ---> glendalough area. Either side is good.

Some good routes mentioned. I often do the mentioned Yanchep ride. Hard, but good ride. Close by in wangara is a 1.65km loop the northern district club uses for crits on Rigali rd / innovation cct in wangara. Its dead on the weekends and good for some interval training up the incline or constant laps. Very rarely you have to wait for traffic. Out east along hepburn ave out to marshall road and back has some long straights

Good weekend ride is down to Marion and head north up to yanchep. Grab a burger at the beachside cafe - yum!!

Then realize that not only will you be riding with a fat gut from the burger, but you enjoyed the view too long and will have a head wind all the way home

I'm in Connolly currently but looking into moving to maylands/bayswater area soonish (must remove finger!!) so will be asking the exact opposite question to you!!
