Cyclists and non cyclists are invited to complete a survey so we are aware of community needs regarding future cycle paths, cycle racks and any other issues that can help assist to improve conditions for cycling in the City of Gosnells.

We look forward to finding out what interventions would help to encourage everyone to cycle more.
Please consider areas that you would walk or cycle to if the infrastructure was in place. We are especially interested in areas around schools, shopping centres, recreational centres and employment areas. Recommendations from residents and those working in the City of Gosnells area will be included in the bike plan and assessed for future possible works.

I live pretty close to the the Gozzy Council border, just over Nicholson Road in the City of Canning. I don't ride in that direction too frequently - but I had to take the chance to vent a little pet peeve of mine. The comments apply to many local councils, just as equally. The issue came up in another thread a while ago.. and I was quietly simmering on the matter for a bit. I guess this prompted me to at least put some words together. I might use this a basis for a letter to the City of Canning. I'd be interested in any response they'd have.

Anyway, this is what I wrote in the box for the question
"What actions or strategies can you suggest to improve conditions for cycling in the City of Gosnells?"

Whilst by and large roads are maintained safely; there still exists a number of the old grate style drain covers in a number of car parks in commercial areas. I refer to the style of grate consisting solely of parallel bars. Particularly where these are placed in the directional flow of traffic these grates are at risk of being hit by unwary bicycle riders and trapping wheels narrow enough to fit between the bars - causing personal injury and damage to the bicyle

Being on private property, I am not sure if these drain covers are strictly the Councils responsibility, but being often quite public thoroughfares I still think they are reason for concern.

I believe with some measure of regulatory enforcement by the City these older style drain covers should become a thing of the past. With replacement, or even simple modification of the existing grates to more of a grid style with properly spaced cross bars a dangerous risk could be removed from many places.
