Buying my first clipless shoes

Buying my first clipless shoes

Postby newblah » Wed May 22, 2013 3:30 pm

Hey all

I am looking to buy my first pair of clipless shoes. It appers that Perth's stores don't stock a huge variety and appear to have insane prices. I asked Avanti Plus at cannington and they told me the pedals would be approx $75 and shoes $150. I could get a set of pedals and shoes for about $150 from a place like wiggle.com.au.

Do I need to have these shoes professionally adjusted? It is it a matter of 'if they fit on your feet they are good to go'. Anyone have any tips for me as I delve into this for the first time? I ride approx 50km/day 4 times a week, I figured its time to make the shift across to hopefully gain a bit more speed on my journey.

thanks

Buy new shoes local so you are sure they fit perfectly. Get pedals anywhere else or secondhand.

Buy them locally. They need to fit spot on. Get pedals online if you need to save bucks somewhere.

Get shoes fitted locally-absolute must for this as fit is a priority, pedals can be gotten online- SPD pedals even with shipping for instance will be a fraction of $75

+1 to buying shoes locally. Once you know what size you are in a particular brand then consider buying online for future pairs. Get the pedals wherever is cheap.

+1 to buying locally also. I have just purchased my first set of shoes and pedals from a LBS it took awhile trying on lots of different pairs till I found ones to suit. The shop was happy to give me a deal on both items + fit the pedals and fit me to the bike could not be happier. 200km is a long way in shoes that don't fit properly!!

What's a good Perth shop for cycling shoes? Preferably close to CBD but NOR.

Cyclemania in North Perth or Riders Choice in Leederville are both good. Elite Racing is also great but not so much for the cheaper end of the market.

Ride n Style in Leederville sell nice Italian shoes (Vittoria) which are reasonable value comparatively.
