Crazy Commuter Weather!

I was sufficiently impressed this morning to see (along with myself), quite a few commuters not put off by the gale force winds, hail-like driving rain, and subsequent torrential downpours.

Salutations to my fellow drenched.



That was indeed some of the worst weather I've ridden in so far in 2008.

my excuse was a power outage stuffed up my alarm clock. had to rely on my body clock to tell me something wasn't quite right; wake up and check the wristwatch was too late to catch the bus - so I had to drive. My third and last preference.

Still, it does me good to drive at least once every few months. It's always a good reminder why I don't do it more often.

Glad to know someone else was stupid/brave today as well.

Being forced into track stands going uphill was definitely a lot of fun.

If the weather is going to be like this for the next few months, I'm going to have to invest in a jacket that is actually waterproof...

Road from Fremantle to Churchlands this morning. Little rain but a lot of wind. Later on I rode into work (only 9 km) and it bucketed down. My Berghaus Gore-tex PacLite jacket worked a treat.

I wimped out and took the bus/train this morning, but I ended up wishing I had ridden in.

At least on my bike I would have had all my wet weather gear on and had a nice hot shower and change of clothes waiting for me. As it was I got drenched and lost an umbrella to the wind along the terrace

That is when I left Fremantle ... According to BOM the wind was around 30 km/h on the coast.

Turns out Cooloongup (near Rockingham) had a tornado come through this morning at about 7.30. I reckon that might have kept you off the bike .....

It might have helped my average. A northerly is not a good look when one is riding in a northerly direction

Well I think you are all mad. I was working last night and sat watching the storm come through from about 01:00 on the cameras and BOM website. I was at that stage very glad that I drove to work in my cage till it was time to go home that is.

I left Balcatta (Halley Rd) at 07:30 and managed to get to Morley Drive by 08:05 but the upshot of it all was that I finally got home in Cannington at 09:15.

Is it possible that on wet days some Perth drivers close their follwoing distance and speed up?

Hopefully tonight is a little better and you all have a safe ride home.

Be careful because there are some real loonies out there driving...

Perth, like Kalgoorlie, has lots of "instant idiots" ("Just add water .....") I don't know why normally "okay" drivers suddenly lose their senses when water gets on the road. But it seems to be a real phenomenon.

My guess is they close up so they can see the car in front better in the reduced visibility...
