Thinking of getting a mountain bike. Worth the investment?

Thinking of getting a mountain bike. Worth the investment?

Postby Chaderotti » Tue Sep 10, 2013 10:06 pm

Hey guys,

Stupid question I know. Any who, around November/December I'm thinking of getting a little entry level mountain bike, I've always loved mountain biking but have never gone off road properly. But do we have any good trails/tracks or which ever you'd like to call them near Perth? I get we have the perth hills but is there anything actually worth traveling out for? Not to mention making the investment.
I have no intention of mtb racing.

Again, another stupid thought is that I want to get a mountain bike to be less afraid of tyres chattering or sliding. Today, I decided to give it a little gas while over a "tar snake", the rear spun up and I fish tailed a little. Don't think there is a force sensor strong enough to get a reading between the old bum after that.

Should I take the plunge?

plenty of trails out there - more & more being added almost monthly. Kalamunda is ever increasing in size (and is well signposted & mapped), Jarrahdale is getting sign posted & tidied up, and Marg River is amazing.

I say go for it. Nothing beats the pure joy of passing a couple of fully kitted out MAMIL on your MTB dressed in a t-shirt, board shorts and running shoes and hearing their groans of despair as you go by.

But he's asking about getting a real bike.

This.

reminds me of my last weekend on the dualie except replace the shoes with thongs :)

+1 go for it. I ride my roadie a lot more than the mountain bike though. mountain bike is just pure fun where the roadie just makes you want to work hard. We have some great single tracks round perth. Turner hill loop is awesome. Go a dualie
