New to Perth

Postby DannyC » Wed Sep 11, 2013 5:48 pm

Hi everyone,

I am new to Perth and was a member of a road cycling club in Scotland. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of which club I should join here? Preferably a club which isn't elite as I haven't had the opportunity to cycle in a few months now. Looking for a friendly and welcoming club that caters to all abilities where I can meet awesome people :)

I live in Floreat near City Beach and Wembley so ideally a club that meets not to far from there. Currently I only have a MTB as I sold my CAAD 10 roadie in Scotland however I am just trying to figure out possible clubs to join.
I have searched online and found a few but I am not too sure and thought I would post here to see if anyone had any good information.

Also wondering where everyone shops online for bike related things? Do most people buy from Wiggle UK and ship to Australia as opposed to the Aussie version of Wiggle which has limited products?

Thanks!
DannyC

http://www.southperthrouleurs.com.au/

They have rides that cater to all levels of skill. I haven't ever seen anyone on a mountain bike on these rides, they are catered more for road bikes.

Hi Danny,

I believe the Wiggle AU site is just a mirror of the UK site. Everything still gets shipped from the UK. Happy riding, the weather will get better soon :)

Depends what you want out of a cycling club:

Social road rides, SPR as mentioned above, Northern Beaches Cycling Club http://northernbeachescycling.blogspot.com.au/ https://www.facebook.com/NorthernBeachesCyclingClub or Roues Chaudes CC https://www.facebook.com/groups/roueschaudes/members/

Mountain biking mainly racing, but there used to be a fairly active social side on the forum
Perth Mountain Bike Club http://perthmtb.asn.au/

Road Racing
If over 35 West Coast Master Cycling Council http://www.wcmasterscycling.asn.au/

Time Trialling
Australian Time Trial Association http://www.atta.asn.au/

I live 40km south of the CBD, so my knowledge is limited on your location.

Fortunately for me, I get to race a lot via Peel District CC http://pdcc.asn.au/ WCMCC, ATTA and soon Cycling WA

Most my online purchases are from the UK Ribble, Wiggle, Planet-X, Evans, PBK and Chain Reaction to name a few. Add Bike24 from Germany, All4Cycling in italy, Jensons in the US and ebay purchases from Taiwanese stores. The Australian/NZ stores sometimes get my money: Torpedo7, Cell Bikes, Pushys or Cycling Express

Welcome to the windy city! Add Audax to your list if you're on for longer rides - very active double u a chapter http://audax.org.au/public/index.php good way to see some countryside around Perth.

Welcome to Perth! If your are just looking for more informal no-committment, no-cost bunch rides rather than kind of formal clubs then any LBS near you will have or know about regular early morning rides often leaving from the shop or nearby carpark. Easy to drop in and out of if you don't like the people or their speed/level of fitness doesn't match yours.

And like others have said, Wiggle and Chain Reaction get most peoples money I think. PBK seem to be a shadow of their former self these days). There are a few locals worth trying like Cell and Pushy's, check out the online purchases thread on this site.
