How to get a road cleaned?

I cycle along Ranford Road in Canning Vale and the area between the railway bridge and Roe Highway has gravel and debris all across the bike lane. I have sent 2 requests to Canning Council to get the road cleaned, with no success. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the bike lane cleared?

Is it possible the email when to the wrong place? A lot of people have had success with the Go!Fix smartphone app which is set up with the correct/active contacts for most councils, but there's also some councils that ignore that as well.

Hi ovie68

That is not at all acceptable for Council to ignore you. My suggestion is:

1. I assume you have sent the request via this page: http://www.canning.wa.gov.au/Contact/contact-us.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. If not, make sure you do, and keep a record of when you sent them and any reference number they respond with.

2. Ring the Council's customer service and ask to be updated on the requests. Given them the dates, your name, the request number (if you have it). The desk staff are usually apologetic in my experience.

3. Ask for a reference number and a response time. If they haven't responded or fixed the issue within this time (usually 2 weeks), call them again and ask for an explanation.

4. If you still have no luck after this time, make a complaint to the WA Ombudsman:
http://www.ombudsman.wa.gov.au/Contact_Us/Contact.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I am just about at Stage 4 with a particular Local Government who has ignored me for nearly 12 months. If I cared more about it (e.g. your issue), I would've done it sooner.

I've used the NeatStreets iPhone app to get Cockburn Council to do some pruning and bike path cleanup in the past. There was some talk of councils not listening to these services any more but I'm not sure of the current status, worth a shot.

Neatstreets is very effective. Plenty of councils use it, although I don't know if Canning accept reports from it. Worth a try.

I have used the Department of Transport Hazard Report system several times and always with good results - https://www.transport.wa.gov.au/activet ... /25460.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Even works with the recalcitrant Shire of Kalamunda who are deaf to all other forms of communication about things in my Shire. The longest I have had to wait for a fix was a couple of weeks which was when they relaid some bitumen at the intersection of Hale and Welshpool Roads.

Thanks for all of the responses (at least the sensible ones anyway :) ) The original contacts were through Canning's website. I have kept the automated response so can follow up by phone if I need to.
I've also since tried using the GoFix app. I'll give that a week or so before I try the next thing......
Will let you know if/when it finally gets cleared.
