Exercise-Associated Muscle Cramp research at ECU.Hi,
I'm conducting a study on EAMC & am looking for participants. You need to be an active male aged 18-45. It involves 2 testing sessions, a week apart, at ECU in Joondalup. Each session lasts 3 hours. Upon completion of the study you will be offered a free VO2max test. If you would like more info contact: [email protected] Cheers, Roger.
I did my first session today. It's certainly an uncomfortable experience, but I think I'm learning a lot about my body by speaking with Roger and I'm doing my bit to help out in some ground-breaking research.
First up, you give some bodily fluids, then some baseline strength tests. Then the fun begins - electrical stimulation of the calf muscles until they cramp. I will return again next week for the second round (apparently, some people chicken out - the sooks The free VO2 max test will be a nice bonus to have too. Maybe I'll do some serious training with that knowledge to help me stay in the correct training zones. I believe Roger is still looking for volunteers. Put your hands up guys - you'll be helping science understand how and why we cramp. And you get a (nearly) free VO2 max test, normally worth something like $300. Cheers, Graeme Think outside the double triangle.

Yep, just send him an email.
The the full program only takes a week, so you wouldn't notice any difference in training over that week regarding VO2 max. You'll get the VO2max test after you've done both sessions - it's the carrot to get you helping them out (this cramping study procedure does hurt! Cheers, Graeme Think outside the double triangle.

I sometimes do this with my own Tens machine for fun. How many areas do they do it on? Aerodynamic Facial Hair
Ah - one of those people eh? In the test, the cramp is induced in each calf, twice. The test is repeated the following week. Cheers, Graeme Think outside the double triangle.

No, I drove my car there.
I was still a little tender on Friday night, but a session with the heat packs reduced the tenderness pretty quickly. I rode yesterday and today with no ill effect. Cheers, Graeme Think outside the double triangle.

Ive started getting a cramp in my calf (which has the cast on with snapped achilles) in the middle of the night. Yowweee!!, cant stretch it out, just have to wait, grimacing and gnashing teeth in pain, until it goes.
I have a cunning plan, as cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University
I am running another study on muscle cramp at ECU. This study is examining the effect of fatigue on cramp.
Again, I am looking for males aged 18 - 45 to participate. It involves 2 testing sessions, 5 - 7 days apart. One session will take 2 hours & the other 4 hours. They will be counterbalanced so the longer session may happen first. You get a VO2max test upon completion of both sessions. If you are interested contact me on [email protected] Cheers, Roger.
Looks like I'm getting another free VO2 Max test done!
Email on the way Roger. Cheers, Graeme Think outside the double triangle.

Thanks for helping out Graeme. Without people like you who are willing to take part in this sort of research we can't get the answers as to why cramps happen.
All I need is a few more willing participants & then I can finish this study & get the answers published for all to read. Cheers, Roger.
My study examining fatigue & muscle cramp has been modified. Participants are now only required to attend one testing session that will take approximately 4 hours.
You still get the free VO2max test if you complete the session. If you want more info contact me on [email protected] Cheers, Roger.
