Coffee spots in Perth and WA
Postby ColinOldnCranky » Sat Jun 07, 2014 1:19 am
I figure that there are heaps of great places for a cyclist to stop off.
So this thread is for you to add your particular spot. Let others know where they might like to take a break on those hard weekend group rides in Perth. Post a pic, a menu or whatever.
(Others may wish to start the same for their own states.)

I did my usual 15 minute workout/warm down by which time they were open for business and serving me me my usual coffee and muffin.
Sassy's is about 100 metres from the Bell Tower towards the Causeway.

Sunsets - Rockingham foreshore overlooking Cockburn Sound.
Zephyr's - Riverside road East Fremantle, overlooking the river.
As a side issue has anyone else noticed the number of cafe's around WA that are close to the water but do not have views of the water! the three above do.

Yeah, the sun rises over the ocean...wellington_street wrote:Yes WA really does not capitalise on the whole sunset coast thing - very different over east.
.... It's OK, I'll see myself out.
Hit me up via the BNA dm; I'll get an alert. If y'know, you know.

I am only an occasional user but, afaik and entirely from vague memory, the Mersey Point one does overlook the water and views to Penguin Island. Though, as in many places, there are reserves (sand dunes) that may preclude uninterrupted view. In this case there is probably more vision to the car park though and it could certainly have been designed and aligned far better, including the outdoor seating.Bartek wrote:Pengo's - at Mersey point over looking Penguin Island, Shoalwater.

You mean the view towards the supermarket isn't to your liking at the Mermaid?! ....I guess most of the patrons are more focussed on the Skimpy or the races to noticeRoobar wrote:After moving from the east coast I thought it was a West Australian trait to prefer views of a car park over the river or ocean. The number of pubs, restaurants and cafés that seem to waste their location is amazing. The worst of which is the dampier pub. I guess that could also be to avoid the patrons being blown away any time after lunch.

This is so true, but also, you have to agree that the way they've built some of these buildings is horendous and they're just waiting to be knocked down and redeveloped.Roobar wrote:After moving from the east coast I thought it was a West Australian trait to prefer views of a car park over the river or ocean. Deep Water Point Café gets a negative vote for me with lousy service, but they do have a good selection of gluten free stuff which keeps my other half happy. I think she should stop blaming gluten for her podge and just eat less/cycle more, but I have not told her that to her face!
