COMPLETION of a 2.4km dual-use path from Neil Hawkins Park in Joondalup to Picnic Cove in Edgewater is good news for residents.

Levelling and sealing the old limestone path has opened up new opportunities for pram pushers, cyclists and the wheelchair-bound.

Department of Parks and Wildlife staff supervised the newly completed $470,000 eight-week project around Lake Joondalup in Yellagonga Regional Park.

While walkers have year-round use of the path, oblong turtles and western long-necked turtles will take precedence over cyclists in the peak egg-laying season, and when hatchlings make their way to the water.

Environment Minister Albert Jacob said a temporary detour would direct cyclists to a path along Edgewater Drive on the park’s western boundary at these times.
