Hi all,
Does anyone know whether any community consultation was sought over the possibilities of mountain biking facilities within the proposed Gangara Park, which is planned to replace the current pine plantation over the next few decades?
I'm thinking that, within the 23,000 ha of land currently utilised by the plantation (and part of the 50,000 ha park), 100 ha or so could be retained and set aside for mountain biking, similar to that proposed for trail-bikes. Although the area might not have the gradients required for any serious DH, the area could be suitable for XC and could include areas set aside for dirt jump, trials and even a north shore-style area (if public liability issues are sorted).
If DEC were to consult with clubs and work with BikeWest or similar to employ proper mountain bike consultants/planners, we could have an additional MTB recreational area at our doorstep that could be easily reached via the proposed Elenbrook rail link.
The pines have a different atmosphere and most of the current fire trails are well-packed sand. Adding plenty of single track through the area would be simple and inexpensive. Adding parking facilities and ablutions would be required.
Any comments?

I like the idea.
The best people to take this forward are the Perth MTB club. They already have active liaison with the DEC for other areas around Perth, so they would know how to proceed with the idea.
Jump onto their web site and suggest it there.
Cheers,
Graeme
