Well it's been a couple of months, & the transport minister has not responded to my email.
I guess he's a bit busy with election campaigning & pretending to commit to spending money on bike infrastructure.

What is the next step, when you're ignored by a minister?

a) your local member, regardless of stripes
b) the opposition transport minister

I do hope they retain cycle provisions on the main sections of Reid even if they kicks bikes off at the overpasses / intersections, as when utilised with PSPs' the cycle lanes could save Mainroads, etc. a lot of money if linked together in a thought out way.

Well over a year later and the contradictory signage is still in place. Big 'No bicycles on Highway' signage on the Wanneroo Rd Reid Hwy westbound onramp, then once on the highway it is followed shortly after by a 'bicycles cross here' , and then a 'bicycles use shoulder' .

The Northlink WA Project has announced a forthcoming closure of Reid Hwy for cycling from Malaga Drive to Altone Rd. Northlink WA also previously closed the Sewell Ct Bridge over Tonkin Hwy (which would have otherwise been the most direct detour for this closure).

The closure is scheduled to take effect in April 2018 and to last until "mid-2019".

The closure and detour map can be found here (pdf).

The closure map also implies that Tonkin from Benara to Morley Drive will continue to be closed to cyclists despite the shared path along this section being originally scheduled to open by January 2018 and currently being scheduled to open by April 2018.
