Reid Cycles WA is closing down - April 2017

Postby Mububban » Fri Apr 14, 2017 10:24 am

I popped in to Reid (Thursday 13th) to check out their kids bikes yesterday, and found that the store is closing down. Their lease is up and they're not renewing it I think. So if you want anything from now on you'll need to order online with no chance to test ride any more.

I don't know when they shut their doors, but they had some MTB and road bikes discounted so there's a chance for a bargain if you're interested.

15th April is the close day - https://www.reidcycles.com.au/store/perth.html

Shame, as they were a nice store, and an alternative to the 'branded bikes'.

Cottesloe Cycles is also closing as they are going into liquidation.
Not sure about Carine Cycles.
Called them yesterday arvo for a quote - they had only just heard.

About to be taken over by the mob at R&D Speedshop - shame really, as they are a specialised dealer, who seem to think the market in the Cottesloe/Claremont area is for $10K race bikes. Greed personified...

Wut?

Most of their floor stock is high end, but they do cater for the entry level stuff.

FWIW: I recently saved nearly $2k on a top spec Crux. No other store could match it in terms of spec/price.

Last time I drove past I thought it was a paint store?

If they closed their retail presence for a reason, I'd be very surprised if those reasons have changed considering the state of the WA economy. Everywhere I go I'm seeing closed retail stores.

Good luck to them though.

Almost the same location. Now it's unit 4, used to be unit 8?

Right next to Golf Box now as opposed to the very end store previously. Much better visibility for them this time.

Hi guys,
James from Reid Cycles here.
Yes we have moved just a few stores up from the old store. The team are doing really well.
The reason for the move is quite simple, the old store was more than double the size and about triple the rent cost compared to the new store.
We didn't need such a big store and as you mentioned the old store was tucked away a little.
With the WA economy under a bit of strain we couldn't justify staying at the old store and since we closed have been keeping an eye out for suitable properties. As luck has it, the most suitable site we could find was close to the old store.
In the past year we have moved from large stores to smaller stores with lower running costs in Perth, Adelaide and Sydney and things are going well.
Our revised strategy of smaller stores means we can continue to pass big savings onto our customers.
Thanks
James
