Police are seeking the public's assistance to identify a man who was taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in a serious condition on Wednesday morning.

About 6.45am, police and St John Ambulance officers found the cyclist collapsed on the Reid Highway overpass cycleway, near the Mitchell Freeway in Balcatta.

The man was not carrying any identification on him and was unable to speak to officers.

He is described as being fair skinned, between 40 and 55 years of age, about 183cms tall, and was wearing a grey t-shirt, blue and black board shorts, red Diadora cycling shoes and black socks.

Update from The West
UPDATE: A cyclist who is fighting for life in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital has now been identified.

A WA Police spokesperson thanked the members of the public who came forward to help locate the man’s family.

“(The cyclist) has now been identified and remains in a critical condition in hospital with family by his side,” the spokesperson said.

The man had been riding on the Reid Highway cycle path over the Mitchell Freeway on Wednesday morning when he crashed.

He was not carrying any identification at the time.

It’s believed the man suffered a medical episode at the Balcatta scene, with a fellow cyclist performing CPR before paramedics arrived.

“Because he came off in front of me, I was seconds behind him,” witness Alison said.
