2018/2019 WABN Grants

The WA Bicycle Network grants for the 2018/2019 financial year were announced this week.

A full list of the projects can be found here (pdf):
https://www.transport.wa.gov.au/mediaFi ... 8_2019.pdf

The summary of the metro projects in the PDF indicates that there are 3 protected bike lane projects, 12 PSPs and 1 intersection upgrade but the project titles only include 2 protected bike lanes (one of which is described as being design of a shared path) so I wouldn't trust the project descriptions.

Notable routes that I recall being discussed here previously include:
  • Salvado Rd
  • Rutland Ave (only 1.5km)
  • Goodwood Parade
  • Curtin to Canning Hwy
  • BP Pipeline in Cockburn
  • Murdoch Drive

That is a surprising number of regional projects.

I was really hoping there would be more focus on the inner 10km around Perth, as I feel that would impact a greater number of people who already cycle and have the potential to encourage the greatest number of new cyclists.

The grants are just for Council led projects and while there is some overlap with the PSP expansion Project routes (looking at Goodwood Parade, Rutland Ave and Murdoch Drive) the PSP expansion project routes are concentrated in the inner 10-15km:
