Great Ocean Road from Melbourne to Adelaide - suggestions?

Hi,
i'm from Germany and I'm planning my trip to Australia (in February) right now. I'd like to ride the Great Ocean Road by bike. As I am alone, I'd like to join other people and book a tour. Do you have an idea which travel agencies offer such a tour and how much it would be (approx)? It seems to be quite difficult to organize that from outside Australia. Do you also know if it is possibel to do the tour from Melbourne to Adelaide? So far I only found information for the other way around.
Thanks for your help.
Kristina

I don't know anything about commercial group tours along the Great Ocean Road, but think there would be very few that would do the full trip from Melbourne to Adelaide. Note - this is about 1000kms! There are relatively few towns along the western two thirds of it - 80-140kms between small towns.

If you have some experience at touring and camping it would be quite possible to ride the whole journey yourself, staying in town caravn parks or motels and bed & breakfast places. You could post on here, BV Forums, or on the Lonely Planet's 'Thorn Tree' pages to look for a companion or two.

In summer (Feb) the prevailing winds along the coast are more likely to be south-easterly, so Melb to Adel is more likely to give you tail winds. Everyone talks about westerlies but these are more likely in winter and spring. Start from Adelaide in February, heading south and south-east, if you like headwinds on flat, open roads

Maybe the guys at alltrail tours can help http://www.alltrails.com.au They don't do the tour you want, but maybe they know someone who does.

Kristina,

I have the first two weeks in March free and Melbourne - Adelaide was one of my options for touring (or vise-versa depending on winds). Are you planning on completing the ride in February or are you able to delay until March?

It would be good to have a ride partner. I'm not aware of any commercial tours that will do the whole trip.
