What kind of weather can I expect in Mid-October?

Postby SurlyGuy » Thu May 28, 2009 6:13 pm

Hi, am planning to ride from Melbourne to Sydney mid-October to first week of November. What kind of nice/foul/wet/cold/sunny weather can I expect? And would be the must-haves when packing for the trip, weather-wise?

Thanks in advance

Brief answer based on my experience of touring north of Sydney that time of year: Be prepared for unexpectedly strong sun, whether the sky is clear or cloudy. Pack a good sunscreen and use it. As further protection I recommend a bandanna to tie around your neck. The burning capability of the sun seems to return with a vengeance around October, even if it's not hot.

G'day

The Bureau of Meteorology has very good climate statistics (based on actual observations over a number of years) which are worth checking out. Details here.

SurlyGuy, how'd you go? any advice for me? I'm planning on doing the trip also. I'll be taking the inland route, via threadbo. I'll be doing it alone.
