Cycle tour round Tasmania

Hi all,

I am planning to cycle round Tasmania (all sealed roads) in early to mid feb and was wondering about the suitability of the apollo allegro as a road tourer. It has the mountings for racks, the wheels seem to be pretty sturdy, the only thing i'm concerned about is the gears. I am looking to camp out in national parks as much as possible with the odd caravan park and youth hostel only if i really have to. Would appreciate any info or advice any of you could offer.

Cheers

Hello, I rode round Tassie in March last year. Your bike will be fine and you don't need to worry about gears. The roads are well graded and good in my oppinion....I have cycled round NZ and the UK and there were steeper hills in both those places.

There are tonnes of nice spots to free camp and the cafe's are great!
Have a wonderful time :)

Thanks for the reply,

Am relieved to hear that as, budget wise couldn't have got another bike even if i wanted to and the cafes = bonus. :D What sort of bike did you use?

I just used my old cro-mo kona made in 1987...it's a great bike, weight just wasn't an issue as there were no hills that killed :)

Sorry for taking so long to reply! didn't click the notify me box :)
