Netbook (10") Case Suggestions

Postby Aushiker » Wed Nov 09, 2011 1:11 pm

Hi

I am in the market for a case for my 10" Asus netbook. My original intention was to get a case to carry the netbook around on campus/flying as well as for protecting it in the panniers on the bike. I see that RonK uses a Case Logic Netbook Attache buy advice elsewhere is to with a sleeve for the touring side of things. Any suggestions on a good sleeve for a netbook (10") or other options to cover both bases?

Thanks
Andrew

This is the smallest one on Wiggle but maybe they make smaller?

I have an Ortlieb notebook sleeve - the earlier model. Yes, it is fine for a 15" laptop, a 10' netbook would go swimming in it.

No, they're not waterproof. The idea is you carry it inside your waterproof Ortlieb panniers

I used a neoprene case for the 10" netbook I took.
If you are going to take one like that, make sure it is horizontal in the pannier, if it is vertical and at the back against the rear of the pannier where there are plastic studs they will indent into the neoprene case.

Just me making assumptions again.
All my associations with Ortlieb are about their legendary waterproofness.
I didn't realise they made products that arnt. :o

That is why I chose the Case Logic Netbook Attache instead of a flimsy sleeve. I've bought a similar case for my Macbook Air.

i use this one. it fits my asus eepc and a notepad as well. being neoprene i have also been known to squish a portable hard drive in there. theres a pocket on the front and i can get the charger in there as well. the handles make it nifty for carrying. and its cheap as chips!

That is the exact one I took on tour with me which now has nice indentations permanently in it. I ended it storing between my 2 clothes bags. I was using a SSD so wasn't concerned about shock or vibration causing damage to the HDD. Using a normal HDD then I would be.

The same thing happened to the case for my Toshiba NB200. Next time I take it travelling I'll get a sheet of that plastic cutting board to protect it from the plastic dome nuts.

Where did you get it from? I am looking at getting one for at least non-touring activities but struggling to find one online at a reasonable price.

I bought it of the shelf from Dick Smith - as far as I can recall it was around $20...

They are not listing them any more. Closer thing is what they call a Case Logic Vertical Bag 7 - 10". Case Logic don't list this bag on their website.

Yes, that is the one I have. It's a Case Logic Netbook Attache BAU-10 - the older model.

Hi

I dropped into Dick Smith to take a look at the CaseLogic case but wasn't that excited by the older style. They did have a Belkin Honeycomb Clamshell case which was appealing. Light and really quite a small overall package plus I like the roubust nature of it. I grabbed one and will see how it works out. Cost was $29.95.
