Schwalbe Marathon Mondial 700cx40 versus 700cx45

Postby Aushiker » Fri Feb 24, 2012 6:02 pm

I managed to do a nice job of stuffing up an order on http://Bike24.net and now have a single Schwalbe Marathon Mondial 42-622 700cx40 folding tyre when I initially planned to order two 47-622 700cx45 folding tyres.

These are for the Dreaming Tour which will a lot of dirt road/sandy/gravel riding. So the question is do I:

(1) Sell the 42-622 700C x 40 and buy in two 47-622 700Cx45 tyres. That is will the extra 5 mm make that much difference?
(2) Keep the 42-622 and get a second one?
(3) Put the 42-622 700C x 40 on the Extrawheel Voyager and get two new 700C x 45 tyres (I was going to put an existing Marathon Cross on the trailer)?

Suggestions?

Thanks
Andrew

Wouldn't the folding tyre be handy as a backup, either carried with you, posted ahead with supplies or kept home with friends acting as 'support crew? That's a separate question from 'is 700C x 40 okay to run or should I go 45s?', sorry.

Yes it would and is now probably the way I will go. I was planning to take one of my existing Schwalbe Marathon Cross 38 mm as a backup but the Mondial would be a better option. At least it folds.
