Newbie Trailer Question

I'm thinking that doing a few overnight tours on the bike would be pretty cool. Obviously I need something to carry my gear. There are on ebay fairly cheap those two wheeled trailers used to tow kids around in. Would one of those be a viable option?

Hello. The most popular are the bob and the extra wheel. Both are good. There's a fair amount of info on both in this forum if you do a search. Happy touring. I have no experience, but one of the kiddy jobs do not seem like the best option for touring.

You can do this sort of touring of course. I wouldn't :|

Trailers add weight. An Extrawheel is ~3-4kg, BOB is ~6-7kg, a cheap two-wheel trailer will be 10kg+. This is all added weight before you even load up any food/clothing/tent etc. Far better economics to spend a bit more on an alloy rack and cheap panniers - max. of ~2kgs. Or save up some more for the sort of top-quality racks and panniers that you can read about in posts on here.

I reserve my Extrawheel for the sort of tours where I need more carrying capacity tham my four panniers can provide.
