Well after a hiatus from cycling I'm pleased to say the new 18T sprocket has seen me once again heading out on my bike with a new lease on life.
The ride I tend to do is undulating with some rises steep enough to give me knee pain and a need to dismount and push before the carrier and cog replacement.
Whilst I can't yet do the distances I was able to do before the extended break, I can now once again make it up the rises, pain free and without having to get off and push.
I'm pleased to say despite the slower climbing, I've experienced no dimming of lights from my dynamo lighting system of Son28 and Edelux Mk 1.
I read in varies forums a belief that such a low gearing would be problematic and prove difficult to remain upright so slow would be the speed.
I suspected such view points would be erroneous and for me they are.
It would have been pointless Rohloff dropping their warranty inspired torque limitations to 1:9 if such a ratio was unrideable.
Speaking of which, I see the Rohloff website appears to have had a make over which I'm not enjoying due to nothing being where it once was and not wanting to spend a lot of time trying to navigate and relearn the location of everything.

Here is picture of Ogre on Saturday... Sadly it come to a bad end on Sunday as hooked a gate with bike on back of ute and bent frame and rear wheel... Now in for a full rebuild as have Around The Bay to do on Sunday so have to pay someone to do as no time.. Have done about 4,500km on it and love it.

Sorry to hear of damage and wish you the best of luck with the frame straightening.
You've got it looking great in the pic.
I look forward to hearing of its rebirth and your once again back in the saddle and loving it.

Sadly no straightening... frame and rear wheel are cactus.
Willl take opportunity to upgrade rear hub to XT (as per rear derailer).
Am going with the new 2017 frame so will be interesting to see how it stacks up. The frameset is only avail in brown... am hoping I can get used to this.
The idea of playing with 27.5+ x 3” tyres sounds fun as would like to cross Sunset desert in Vic. Will be something to work to.
But first get it back and put some smoother tyres on and get around the bay done...
Here is earlier pic before the front rack and basket...

Hi Kalmsg, Where are you at with this?
I was wondering whether this might be an appropriate time for you to consider getting some S&S couplers added to a new frame.
Just a thought.
I'd consider it myself but for the down time of not having a bike whist I stripped mine and sent it away somewhere to get done.
There are a couple of firms in the states who deal with Surlys and can, after you've ordered and payed, organise frame delivery to them for the customisation (addition of couplers) after which they ship it to you.

A delivery has seen the Ogre with a new B&M cache battery for the Ewerk.
I have purchased a couple of Mi Xioami storage batteries but haven't had somewhere entirely satisfactory to have them situated in order to charge them from my bikes dynamo set up.
The E-werk cache battery is very small and is situated in its own small cover inside the Ogres frame against the head tube, attached via velcro.
I'll revisit the storage battery location situation at a later date if necessary, but am happy enough without my alternative option which was trying to keep them in a chaff type bag adding more "busyness" to an already "busy" area of the bike.
I also grabbed a silicone cover for my Edge 1030.
Having nearly not recovered a dropped Edge 800 on a previous tour, I opted for a yellow cover this time in order for it to better stand out should it fall from the bike.
Spotting the fallen one in its black silicon cover had me tearing my hair out and nearly giving up on finding it (till I did).
Hopefully my logic stacks up, but if not, I'm happy enough with the aesthetics as it blends in nicely (IMHO) with my yellow/black Ortliebs.
A couple of Relevate top tube bags were part of the delivery and I'm looking forward to seeing if they complement the bikes storage and weight distribution in any way.
Certainly I'll be happier without my keys and phone bouncing around in my handlebar bag which is now the repository for my camera.

You should be using the tether that comes in the box, not relying on seeing it.

Ok, I'll start the game of hide and seek later.
I think I know where to start looking for it.
I'm less sure how it attaches to both the unit and the handlebars

I hadn't bothered with the tether on the 1030, expecting the experience to mirror the one I had with my 800 unit.
However I've discovered upon trying it, the 1030 tether I received is very different.
I suspect a faulty tether came with the 800 unit as the tether I received wasn't elasticated or perhaps to put it better, didn't stretch.
The 1030 worked exactly as it should have but wow, what a different experience given it worked exactly as I thought it should being completely intuitive.
Its a mystery as to why there was no stretch in the 800 unit but it stopped my even trying with my 1000 or until now with my 1030.
Thank you for the suggestion RonK.
Though I'm still equally happy with my bright yellow silicon cover on my latest one.

Tis a good pic.
Its unfortunate that Kalmsg hasn't been back to give us an update yet.
Hopefully busy taking lots of pics to share whilst touring on a new bike.
We'll watch this space.

Sorry, have been busy but still riding the Ogre and loving it.
Did a run across Big Desert with 2.6" Schwalbe Nobby Nics.. which was great fun but hard work..
If anyone is wondering how they fit, it is tight but using Snuggnut to hold wheel in place works a treat.
With regards looking after Garmin Edge, I use the tether but also silicon case from Aliexpress which works great. Also use an Etrex which I use reflective tent cord (1.8mm) as tether.
I think bright colours are helpful, it makes leaving camp a lot less stressful imho..
