Adelaide - Melbourne - done!

Postby bagelonabike » Mon May 27, 2013 8:56 pm

I'm just back from a very enjoyable 8 day ride from Adelaide to Melbourne around the coast. Great scenery, meet some wonderful friendly people and had pretty mild weather for early winter so didn't get too wet or wind blasted overall!

Hmm all I can think now is what next? Definitely a summer ride next time...

Good ride and reasonable weather for May. I've always figured on 15-17 to take it easy and see the sights. You young 'uns!

I remember the alpacas at the 'Bates' motel in Lavers Hill. Last time through there it was bloody cold like your pics show and in November.

Pity you didn't approach Melbourne via the ferry and come up the Mornington Peninsula rather than the most boring approach to any city in the world... the Geelong freeway.

:D I live on the west side of town so made sense to go down the freeway...but I'll probably ride to Sydney next time I can get my act together, and will go the Mornington route then :D

-Ricky the bike is a Specialised Cyclecross bike with my mods...but did pretty well.

Nice trip, although I think you really missed a few good stops with those longs daily distances - but to each his own, I say. And there aren't too many options in SE Sth Australia.

We (Uncle Just and I) did a shorter version 18 months ago and it's a great ride along the coast from Port Fairy, though we had a similar day to yours from Port Campbell into Lavers Hill - cold, wet and hard the whole way.... and this on my first tour !!

But ...despite UJ's comments, the 'Bates Motel' at Lavers Hill isn't really that bad IMHO !!
