Had a look on B.O.M, wind rose says easterly winds which is what I want, as I am heading east. But average wind velocity map says opposite.
Anyone know anything about wind direction, from any personal experience or such?
Cheers.

Yes, what I would expect for summer into autumn, easterlies and southeasterlies. But if you are heading east.......... ? These will be blowing in your face, and you want this? Hard man !!Solobiker wrote:Had a look on B.O.M, wind rose says easterly winds which is what I want, as I am heading east.
Or do you have your wind direction monickers mixed up?
Couldn't find the "average wind velocity map".

Wind velocity: http://www.bom.gov.au/jsp/ncc/climate_a ... d=mar#maps" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
So should when would be a good time to cycle across?

Average weather .. what happens when I'm not there.Solobiker wrote: average wind velocity
The BOM have percentiles .. 95% .. that is what happens 2/3rds of the time (2 sigma) and is to be expected (plan on it). The other 5% is unusual.

WA is a largish place ... what part of it are you traveling through? If the nullabour then .. well most people experience headwinds .. even people traveling in opposite directions recon they both have headwinds The truth is they probably have a cross wind (and if it is coming from the south it will be cold).

Typical summer pattern in Perth is easterlies in the morning, with (hopefully!) the sea breeze (westerlies) arriving in the mid to late afternoon to cool things down a bit.

April - Sept/Oct is the best time for crossing.

Leaving in May looks reasonable, as I will be following the coast to Sydney.

Solobiker.... don't worry about the winds, I've just arrived in Sydney after doing the Trans-Continental Ride....
you'll have headwinds, no matter what time of day, year, or what direction you travel....
What the Nullarbor giveth, the Nullarbor will taketh away.

Yeah, I figured that I would still get headwinds.
But, getting the best tailwind would be great.
