Sydney - Melbourne : What to take

Postby dean_n2 » Mon Sep 15, 2008 10:10 am

I am seriously considering riding from Sydney to Melbourne late this year. I have been riding regularly for well over a year so fitness is not an issue. I also did a number of week long tours back in the 1980's when I was at school and a teacher who was a dedicated cyclist used to organise annual trips.

My question though is what tools and spare parts I should consider taking. Hopefully some of the more experienced on here can offer some suggestions.

Dean, I'll be doing that trip in October. I generally carry a fairly basic toolkit with spare bolts etc, chain breaker and links, spokes(which I've never had to use), pliers and a small shifter, hex keys and a few other things I can't think of at the moment.

I'm pretty blessed with my touring. No major problems. Keeping tyre pressure up seems to be my big concern. You can't plan for everything but if you start with equipment in top order you're halfway there. Know where the nearest bike shops are enroute and ride sensibly.

I've just jinxed myself by posting this.
