YouStorm - weather videos by bike

Postby youstorm » Thu Feb 18, 2016 3:34 pm

Hi fellow tourers

My name is Chris. My contract ended in the middle of January so decided to downsize and head out by bike from Melbourne with two cameras a computer and solar panels. The loose goal was to make some weather videos, mostly time-lapses, but ultimately as a meteorologist I am interested in weather education. So far I've headed along the Victoria south coast from Melbourne to Warnambool:

and the inland to the western desert parks where there were some good star time-lapse opportunities,

a few camp star time-lapses ares in video below:

My setup was not good enough for the sandy tracks in Wyperfield and Murray Sunset so though I went into those parks, I left the way I came.

Ended up in Mildura then Swan Hill and now back in Healesville writing stuff up in the library and camping nearby. I'm interested in connecting, liking, following etc., up with other tourers online on wordpress, facebook and youtube if you feel so inclined to such things. There are not too many people on bicycles out in Victoria's northwest.
My pages are:

Mate, I enjoyed some of your time lapse stuff. Are you still on the road?

Hi Al,

Yeah I am in a brief hiatus but will be back on the bike tomorrow. Have been volunteering on a fire research campaign and really pleased to have caught a time-lapse of the intense Mount Bolton bushfire with them which is here: https://youtu.be/qrLLI00kcrA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I may bike to Kinglake to camp tomorrow and try and get some distant night time-lapses of Melbourne, then on 7 Mar I'm heading to the North Island New Zealand where I hope to make time-lapses and model simulations of clouds over the volcanoes, especially Mt Taranaki I think.

Cheers,
Chris

Mate, that was insane, I would hate to be caught in that on my pushy, the fire front heat would be off the charts. How many shots and what is the frequency between frames. What camera are you using?

Mt Taranaki is great, I stayed in New Plymouth for 6 weeks many years ago.

Al.
