Ok, I know Hokkaido is the northern island, so I'm guessing that marker is the northern tip of Japan.

Hehe - couldn't you fit any more gear on that bike Trev?

Name please! because otherwise I'll post the actual landmark I wanted to post, which can be seen from around 40km away...

That pic was before I bought the BBQ and folding chair... and sent a little bit of stuff home, but no where enough to balance the gains. The BBQ fitted neatly under the Rack Pack, the charcoal went on top.
There are a lot of alpine walks in Hokkaido, you need a decent pack to tackle them...

Ok, the northernmost point in Japan (if that's where is is) would be Cape Soya.

But if I'm right, go ahead and post the actual landmark you wanted to post. Japan is such an interesting country - one I've been thinking about touring. Would like to see more pictures.

Did you keep a journal of that tour? It would make interesting reading.

Apparently tall structures are quite popular in Hokkaido.

I can't work out what that one is though.

If it's any hint it's a giant scallop on a very tall stick... Like about 100m high... near a Park Golf course- a variety of golf played with giant balls and clubs.
Completely empty like a lot of landmarks in Hokkaido, a relic of the build it and they will come boom of 80s and 90s Japan. It looks like there was once a snack bar or something there once, otherwise it's roll up and wander about at will, we didn't see anybody about, and free... Here's a view from the top...

There are some "interesting" beers available from a nearby brewery, and some very nice cycle ways in the area...

Hyakunen Kinen Tenboutou .
The Hundred Year Commemoration View Tower
Kitami.

Popular name Hotate Tower due to the scallop top.

Guess I'm cheating a bit as I had to go searching on line.

Found details but no pictures.

Then again I'm probably way off.

Good work...
Love the hotate, which is mostly why we carried the BBQ, that and the sweet corn. Nothing better than a BBQ of fresh scallops, capsicum and sweet corn, some fresh beer, and the wander over to an onsen for a hot bath after dinner.
Touring in Hokkaido has completely ruined us for touring in the rest of the world...

Sorry for delay.
Death in family and I'll be busy for a bit sorting things out.

Trevtassie might like to post another.

Nope. More northerly. Reasonably famous and stupid cycling activity in this city, it does involve a zoo though.

Another hint, because I'll be incommunicado for a couple of weeks within a day or so...

The symbol on the jacket is a BIG hint: Zoo Bomb....

Well - you'd have to have good eyes to read Zoo Bomb in that pic... :)

According to Wikipedia it's the Zoo Bomb pile or pyle in Portland

So - a hint, well two hints actually. The trees are redwoods, and the building behind is a spa.
