Western Tiers Challenge

Did the (almost) hundred ride this morning. Top weather, huge turnout. 550 riders or thereabouts for all distances. There must have been 100 bikes in the 100K ride, although the ride was shortened a bit due to roads being flooded, it was only 86. I road out and back to the start for another 20 so got the century out of the way.
The first group was quick, I fell of the back 10 Ks from the end when they put the hammer down.

Maybe I will have a crack at the 160 next year.

I looked at the speed and thought yikes hes quick, then saw it was under 500m climbing and felt a bit better about myself

I still could not average that speed over that course, thats scooting along

We did the 76km ride (actually 55km) lead group averaged 32.5kmh was a pretty good ride

Thanks for the compliments, I was tacked on the end of a big group, my second group ride. The guys at the front were doing all the work.
The original route included a few hills, the rain last weekend closed some roads and the ride was shortened and the hilly section dropped.

So if I went out to the local Vets race tomorrow morning, a 50k at Cressy that is reasonably flat, what grade should I go in?

i would ask the local vets organisers, if you have done a TT then they can use your time as a guide, or just blind faith/trial and error - they put you into a grade and see how you go (sink or swim), or if you have ridden with a vets memebr then use them as a guide.
