best 60-75km route from hobart

Postby lit46 » Sat Jan 10, 2015 3:59 am

Hi there,

I'm soon to visit Hobart for a while and have a day or so on a bike.

Can anyone recommend a good route on quiet, decent roads?

Many thanks!

Heading north from the city: Intercity cycleway - Bowen Bridge - Grasstree Hill - Richmond - Brinktop Rd - Penna Rd - Pittwater Rd - Seven Mile Beach - Acton Rd - Oakdowns - Tranmere - Howrah foreshore path - Bellerieve - Tasman Bridge

South from the City - Hobart Rivulet to South Hobart - Strickland Avenue - Huon Rd - Longley - Sandfly - Margate - Howden - Tinderbox Loop - Blackmans Bay - Kingston Beach - Bonnet Hill - Taroona - Sandy Bay - Hobart

Both of these circuits have some gravel sections you can opt out of by taking alternative roads, but they are perfectly doable on a road bike.

This is commonly known as the Commando loop, popular training ride, fairly quiet roads, starts very close to the city. About 65km if you do the Tinderbox loop, about 50 if you cut it out.
