eBay prices on the rise, good time to sell old junk?Re: eBay prices on the rise, good time to sell old junk?Hi,
"Opportunity presents itself" to purchase a "Retro Steel Framed Bike" stickers claim it is a "Miyata". =>> But...I'm a little skeptical as to whether it is a genuine Miyata (maybe a wanna bee racer has removed identifying stickers etc so that it might...on first glance.... be considered a "Team Miyata". The Serial Number format does not line up with: Miyata Serial Nos =>> there is no alphabetical letter at the start of the serial No. =>> The serial Number located on the non drive side of the "Seat Tube" just above the bottom bracket. ? Does anyone know.... a) Is the http://vintagemiyatabicycles post correct re Miyata Serial Numbers starting with an Alphabetic prefix indicating the year? b) Where is the serial number supposed to be on a Miyata Frame....is the location non drive side of the "Seat Tube" just above the bottom bracket correct? Referring to: 1993 Miyata Cat "Pg25" which is Pg 27of 32 of the electronic file Specs are very similar to a 1993 "FIVE 12" - 14 Speed =>> But Color is Dark Grey & Mauve. Fork is Dark Grey Frame ? CrMo no Sticker Fork Unicrown ? CrMo but no Sticker (Unrelated damaged "SILCA" Sticker on Fork) Stays Forged Ends - BUT no provision for rear axle alignment grub screws. Dual H20 Mounts Crank 300Ex Bio (Egg shape) 52 42 Rear Der - Shimano Exage 300Ex Front Der - Shimano Exage 300Ex Shifters - Down Tube Mount Shimano Light Action & SIS 7Sp Brake Levers - Shimano Exage Brakes - Shimano 300Ex Rims - Velocity Deep V Australia Made 32 Spoke (Suggest after market Retro fits) Front Hub - Shimano 105 Rear Hub - Shimano RX 5000 7Sp close ratio cluster Weight 11kg on Park Tools Scales Other oddities... Handle bars are cheap plain steel Head set looks cheap and nasty chrome steel ie not Shimano or sealed unit that I would have expected on a quality bike. c) Did the Miyata "FIVE 12 14 Speed earlier or later than 1993 equivalent" come in "Dark Grey fork & front 1/2 of bike" & "Mauve seat tube, seat stays & chain stays" two tone Paint? d) What diameter seat post should a "FIVE 12 14SPeed earlier or later than 1993 equivalent CrMo Miyata" have? Comments/thoughts appreciated. Thanks, Rob Last edited by Rob74 on Wed Nov 14, 2012 10:59 pm, edited 1 time in total.

I take it from your questions that you've picked up the frame is a bin job, not a salvageable job? Jim Last edited by familyguy on Wed Nov 14, 2012 7:18 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Is it on ebay now? There's a 56cm Miyata on ebay currently, may be genuine. Miyata did make a few models with unicrown unholiness, but the Team aint one of them! Jim MY RIDES: My Velospace Profile

Re: eBay prices on the rise, good time to sell old junk?Rob, Interesting bike.. I saw the EXACT same one 2 weeks ago, serial : SR9030168 I did some digging and the previous seller bought it for 270, sold it for 337.50... not to the guy selling it now so i am very confused... is there a bicycle double???!!!?!! curious to know what this one will go at..
Re: eBay prices on the rise, good time to sell old junk?
=>> Probably not for me. 63cm (25") frame required + its in QLD .....but with the Ultegra components it could make a worthy donor & then flip the frame. Rob.

Made a jump from bedding sand once - wet down to give it a crusty shell. You can imagine how that ended. I ride 25s on the basis that they divide more easily into 100 than 23s.
Re: eBay prices on the rise, good time to sell old junk?
No argument there. This little Fuji has reappeared after some weeks.Just fell off/no bids at just sub-four hunnerd. Now re-listed as per link. My diminutive female work colleague was interested, but now another (equally diminutive) friend of hers is interested. OK, I'm fishing for opinions a bit. I reckon in current market it's a mid-200s bike. Thing is, it's on the Insular Peninsula, so an easy pickup for her. (SatNav's been a boon for those poor people. Rumour has it there are several dozen at any one time driving aimlessly anywhere south of Warringah Mall. And what's with that long stem? ... oh, gotta hate those ugly reflectors. maybe it's subliminally putting people off. Ever noticed how quiet steel bikes are?
Re: eBay prices on the rise, good time to sell old junk?
But it comes with a "spear tire in a bag under the seat" that's got to be worth at least a extra hundred I was going to buy a fast, stylish bike, but I looked in the mirror & thought "you're not fooling anyone, you know"
Re: eBay prices on the rise, good time to sell old junk? That Fuji has been up four or five times, coming down from $400 in very slow movements. I reckon mid-$200's is about right for that. The Cyclone parts on it were decent enough. I've learned via a few web resources that Fuji built some quality frames that flew well under the radar.
And here's the bike: http://www.classicfuji.com/ClubFuji_1986_Page.htm You can see it's basically catalogue condition, even the bar tape and straps! I don't know what the 449 refers to, but it's probably 'new price' in '86. VALite frame info: http://www.classicfuji.com/1986_30_Fram ... 1_Page.htm & http://www.classicfuji.com/1986_31_Fram ... 2_Page.htm The Classic Fuji website is a great resource. Re: eBay prices on the rise, good time to sell old junk?Boggles me that a 26 year old bike can look that new. Makes that Mongoose from this morning look used.
I expect you'll be rebuilding the bearings and replacing the rubber before you can ride it too far though, so $200 would be my stingy limit.
