Hi all,

Just thought I should share this with you all......

PRO-Bikegear do a "Retro" handlebar tape

here's how it looks.....

May be just the thing for a restoration where moden gel tapes don't look right. :wink:

yeah, you could do that but would it be long enough :P

I just though this stuff looked pretty good, and you don't have to stuff around trying to make it fit...

yeah looks good. i have some ambrosio tape on a couple of bikes. no white stitching, but still looks retro. wouldn't mind trying that fancy fizik buffed tape next

Way back in the 80s when the only tape you could get was the humble cloth tape, usually black, I bought some tennis racquet leather tape. I had to use enough for 4 racquets - one each for the tops, one each for the drops. It cost me about $20 which was a huge expense back then!!!

The hidden value of it was that they lasted about 10 years, as opposed to 12-18 months for cloth. When the leather got a bit grotty looking I toook it off, cleaned it with a bit of water, polished it with some nugget then refitted it. Durable, weatherproof and re-usable :idea:. And much more comfortable on rough roads.

The Brooks leather bar tape is pretty good looking too.

But $US85 is a bit of a killer. There is Soma leather tape for a good bit less.
