Picked this up a few days ago as a project bike, just wondering if any of you guys would know anything about it. I have a feeling that it's quite old...
I can also add more photo's if any of you are interested :)

Assuming this Windcheater is still available, (which it may not be; awaiting an answer), can someone enlighten me on the sloping TT thing versus a (possible), horizontal version.
The one listed currently looks horizontal.
The one in this brochure (miraculously still on photobucket's server :faint:), looking like a dedicated trials/pursuit, or whatever. :|

This could have been me, um... 40 years ago.

Depends on the frame size. They used the same head tube on each one, the differing length of seat tube gave a diferent slope, ie a smaller frame size would have less slope, a large size more slope.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks.

.... corollary of that, by the looks, that in smaller sizes you could 'cheat' it as a road bike. :|

Saw an interesting model over the weekend. Spoke to a bloke riding it. Didn't look particularly high spec - ~Elite level SR chainrings etc. But it had the earlier cursive "Ricardo" lettering on the DT and the bird (sans crest shape) on the HT. Quite original looking, but the odd thing was the colouring for a Ricardo, it was in a two tone yellow to green fade.

The guy said he'd had it from new and it was an "America's Cup" Special - not that I could see anything else to suggest that on the bike other than the Green & Gold. But I figure 1983 would've been about right. Of course in the next breath he asked he how much I thought it was worth.

Oh dear. Memories of Bond and Hawke. If they'd mentioned 'America's Cup' Bond probably woulda sued.

Over the last week or so I picked up a Richardo Elite... Its been knowed about a bit and came as a frameset, with setpost and headstem...

Its the same as Muzzie's in red and white.... It came with a Bio-pace crank, 105 downtube shifters and front and rear derailer.... I'm intending to run it as a Winter singlespeed... and so over the week I've managed to remove much of the running gear.

I've now discovered the seatpost doesn't fit properly and the collars was fully tightened but not tight enough. Can anyone confirm the correct seat post diameter for this bike?

Thanks, Heath

If its made from Tange 5 it should be 26.6mm. If its Tange 900 it will be 26.4mm.

How would I tell which it is?

There are none of the Tange Stickers on the bike, nor the model stickers... Only the Larger Ricardo DT and ST stickers and the red to white paint fade....

Thanks again, HEATH

The red to white paint jobs were late 80's so it would have been built with Tange 900 tubing.

This..
...though double check if you can before dishing out the spondoolies if you need to buy one. If you have some calipers check the "supplied" post diameter (if its markings are illegible) to confirm it's smaller than this and if you have any oppurtunity to borrow or try a known 26.4 or 26.6 post from someone with an already established spares pile. If you have a half decent LBS, they should be able to either measure up or try one or the other for you. Though in which case - you should do the right thing and then purchase the post from them ;) Get a new shiny binder bolt while you're at it :D

Any LBS which looks down their nose at you or tells you they can't "get those anymore" - walk out and try elsewhere.

Pics of Windcheater, 10 mins after drop-off to my work. Haven't even removed the reflectors yet. Been in a garage for however many years, as guy couldn't ride it as soon as he bought it, due to literally breaking his neck, then knee trouble.. Sounds like he bought it at some kind of Ricardo showroom, (maybe they had a distribution agent here; sounds like they had it in the foyer). He apparently picked it up one day when doing deliveries there, when they were on the brink of closing the doors. Assuming around the time of Ricardo SA's demise.
Thought he was doing the right thing by putting new chain and tyres on it. Been a while since I had a 27" bike. Some decades, in fact. :)

TT/55 DT/61 ST/51 (C to C, approx). Bearings need doing all round, I'd say. Getting plenty of prac. on Ricardo maintenance.
Headset's marked 'Tange Falcon'. FD and brake calipers look a bit ordinary, quality-wise, but once I've worked on them, shall probably just leave them on. Frame is Tange 900 d/butted.
