The photog would have to have been quick, seeing as how Coppi died on the 2nd day of 1960. It would seem somewhat unlikely that he was drinking a cuppa on a leisurely ride round the track the day before he died from malaria caught in Burkina Faso in December 1959.

Yes that photo has been widely circulated on the internet and I have called it out more than once. It doesnt even look remotely like Coppi.

Theres another one of Kay Werner Neilsen riding the vertical advertising hoardings at Aarhus in the 50s which is being circulated as Matthew Gilmore in the 90s, again looks nothing like Matt and its not a trick he ever did anyway.

But its the internet hey, and no-one bothers to check anything before re-sharing the falsehoods...

This might be of interest to somebody on here: https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/south-y ... F-bicycles

If it's legit, the price seems pretty good to me.

From the listing:

Speedwell coasters on the Bay. Maybe I should ask for royalties? Squishing the rectangular image to fit on the square coasters doesn't look real flash.

Really came to his senses. Yesterday it was $1400, obviously too high now it's at an even grand.

^ Looks a bit like those Shockstop things that there's a thread on here about.

Edit: My Dad who rode bikes in Tasmania in the 50's had a vague recollection that Bilyard was English, but he wasn't entirely sure.

looks interesting, and once again claims it's a converted track bike, seem to hear that a bit,
and it's not, of course

I agree that the left brake hood appears to have one of the Shockstop 'honking' rubbers.
It appears that Bilyard was a Tasmanian company, but their advertising for bicycles stopped abruptly in March 1950

A Bertoni frame, may be of interest. No idea of the quality/value but I'm always tempted by shiny things and it's my size

^ Saw that on Gumtree for $250, which I thought was a good buy, so $150 is a bargain!

Well spotted. I nearly didn't notice that at first glance.

Looks like there might be a smaller (but matching) bend on the down tube just above the shift levers. It's obviously had a nice firm front end impact.

Malvern Star Double XX. Jolly expensive, but it's all there and they aren't exactly common.
