Nice spotting. All stars would have aligned if it weren't for frame size. Once again, someone with zero camera skills. Probably priced about right where it is now (3x12). Stem shifters and squeezies.
A 3rd party pic, about 10 down. Similar vintage, by the looks. Is that a Huret RD? Hard to tell, but looks non-slant-parallelogram; odd jockey-wheel cage. Someone will know. Idle curiosity while I kill a few minutes.

Does anyone actually ride these things or are they just permanently swapping hands on eBay?

It's just nostalgia from a whole lot of guys- BMX & dragsters. My then 14yo son bought a dragster with rusty motorcycle type shockers from a garage sale fir $6, kept it festering round the house virtually unridden because it was so heavy, and I sold it on eBay just to clean up after a coupla years more rust. It got just under $200 and the guy was going to replate everything just like the rest of his display collection. Real world usability and current condition didn't really seem to affect his buying decisionLugNut wrote:I wish I could permanently filter anything containing the word 'BMX' from my search results.

I think some flat-peak capped junior would-be coolsters ride them for journeys that would be untenable on a skateboard. Just my casual reading of it. We had a nice young guy who worked with us recently, who lived locally, who was commuting on one. He was a Boxing ex-AIS pupil. Man he was fit. Hate to see how fast he woulda gone on a roadie with 120psi in the tyres.LugNut wrote:I wish I could permanently filter anything containing the word 'BMX' from my search results.

It is actually possible (but unlikely) to have a fixie with 3 gears.find_bruce wrote:It seems the nostalgia market is bullish Speedwell Mustang $2,500

Sturmey Archer S3X
and the older
Sturmey Archer ASC hub from the 50's
I have fantasised about building a new set of wheels for my track bike with a drum brake for the front (detachable cable) and one of these hubs in the back so that I could ride to and from track racing.
Cheers,

That's the second bike I've missed in the past week or so - the other was a very nice looking shogun metro that went for $44.. gotta sharpen my auction skills, or set some reminders on the phone!

Just got 1st one today. Was surprised. Thought it may have been printed on uncoated stock, and been fairly basic as a cost-saving thing. Not so. Good quality/weight stock, and creditable half-tones. So enjoyable to read, and they'd be saving a fair whack on not using process colour, as it looks to be printed offset. OK, looks a bit olde worlde, but then so am I.pentlandexile wrote:Yes, lovely. By the way does anyone else wish Bicycle Quarterly was printed in colour?

Yeah sorry about that, saw it on Gumtree and thought I'd have a crack, picked it up this afternoon. Not quite as big as I'd hoped but decided to take it anyway, will see what I can do with the seatpost and stem. Weighs about 10kg even as it is. I'll put some pictures in the Shogun appreciation society when I get the chance.Rob74 wrote:Shogun Team Issue in Sydney

Good score! These dual list eBay/gumtree sellers are starting to give me the sharts though - not that its of any consequence to me, having not bid on the item.TedDancin wrote:

A lot of sellers (and buyers) seem to think eBay is just some kind of online window shopping game. Take Munga's Apollo, or the Lennie Rogers sunho won as examples.
There's way too many dumb/indifferent people out there. I guess with them all buying bicycles though, natural selection will take care of it.
