Mmm. But it's not too rough, and pretty-well all there.koen wrote:In the post above the Apollo is listed as very good condition for age! I did laugh a little.
A weekend's work and a good clean-up, and it would make a good ride-to-work bike.
But not at that price, for an Apollo I.

Jack was a clever man when it came to business. From the articles I've read and the tales I've heard from those who knew and raced with him, I suspect the bike was just a random bike used as a publicity stunt to get customers to his store. I called by his store a few times and yes the bike looked the part but who was still alive to confirm his claims? What makes you say that?
That article is posted in the ebay ad.
You reckon if Jack said it was then that's that?
(I don't know anything of Jack Walsh besides what the seller sprouts)
Karen.

I live the Q&A about the weight of the bike.rangersac wrote:Repco DeVille for the taller gent. Good commuter with the double eyelets
Q: How heavy is the bike?
A: 8.4kgs with the attached stand.
Q: You sure? as the steelie would be the same weight as my full carbon 60cm frame road bike.
A: Yes, weighed it this morning, 8.4kgs

Obviously needs to sell the bike to buy new scales that work.

I'd have thought it was weighing in kg (yes I know kg are not a measure of weight, they are a unit of mass) treating them as pounds and converting to kg again.jonbays wrote:Ha He posted a pic of the scales showing 8.4kg! I should get myself onto those scales!

With no-one on the scales they would read approx -6kg.

Lots of people care about weight. If you had no idea of the model designation then the weight could be useful to help work out if the bike is decent or junk.singlespeedscott wrote:Why would anyone care about the weight of a DeVille? It's a base line model from the 1980's made from gas pipe. Actually why anyone cares about the weight of a steel bike is beyond me.

They didn't sell (or get relisted).Torana68 wrote:anyone know what hapenned to the '26 (not) Speedwell and the Major Taylor bike? was emailing the guy but replies stopped and bikes not on Ebay anymore?
Morini, I didn't go to Goulburn for a look. That would have been sending a boy to do a mans job. To me it looked oldish, smallish and bike ish. Beyond that ..?

I work on the principle that if it's older than 1975 I don't need to own it or know anything about it. It looked ready for the tip in my opinion but then someone would have found it, had no idea, joined up here and then we'd be back into it again.Imwit wrote:They didn't sell (or get relisted).Torana68 wrote:anyone know what hapenned to the '26 (not) Speedwell and the Major Taylor bike? was emailing the guy but replies stopped and bikes not on Ebay anymore?
