I like it, but looks somewhat bigger than a 54.

Start by applying some penetrating oil on all threaded parts before attempting to dismantle, and check for date codes on the rear hub and the crank arms.

Lets hope whoever got it does the right thing by it, it's a properly good bike.Discodan wrote:Damn, missed that by an hour. I would have snapped that up for the money. Those brakes were interesting

$230 on æbay today.
Someone has spent some time cleaning it up and making it more "presentable", removing rusty mud guards, tape etc but...
rookie error with the seat post

I bought this. The plan is to strip the paint, treat any rust, then repaint it. Then maybe rebuild with my 105 Golden Arrow group.elfoam wrote:Lets hope whoever got it does the right thing by it, it's a properly good bike.Discodan wrote:Damn, missed that by an hour. The DA AX brakes were sold two days later for more than what I paid for the bike. If they'd had the matching levers I would have kept them, though. Plus they aren't famed for their braking power and I'm a decent sized guy, so stopping matters. Currently working on getting the DA EX hubs out of the wheels as the rims are pretty done. DS crank is a Stronglight, NDS a crappy Shimano, on a too-short spindle, so the small ring hits the chain stay. I knew it was a bit of a basket case from the photos, as well as the sellers past items. He's seems to be a kerbside collector, I reckon.
The frame is in OK shape, but needs a strip, treat and repaint. It's straight, with no rust that I'm too concerned about. Will just have to see what is underneath after I get the paint off.
The frame is EXO-H, which is CrMo quad butted tubing (ref: http://www.equusbicycle.com/bike/ishiwa ... /index.htm) EX is below that, triple butted. The sainted 022/019/017 stuff is all lighter. I only bought it because I don't have an Ishiwata-tubed frame. And it's my size.

the use of flatbar brakes on drops just sets the scene and the bar-tape disappearing under the stem bracket is just the icing on the cake.
