There have been some big numbers for a few bikes lately, especially that Penny Farthing, but this for a Two Star Roadster is a bit surreal.

Anyone on here purchase this?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Very-Rare-Vi ... true&rt=nc

Went for some decent money. I bought an Austral tool bag in better condition a few years ago for $33. Dunno if I got a bargain or they really wanted it and paid a lot for it.

You just know they have a "mate" who thinks they are an expert on everything and they've told them it's super rare and worth a heap of money.

I'm not saying that it's worth that much necessarily, BUT, you'd have to look for a very long time to find an unrestored one in that condition still wearing it's original parts...

And the penny farthing was also a lot of money, but it's an original Singer from the 1880s...

That Malvern Star is an interesting sale.
It was listed on 4 Jan with a $3000 starting price. There were two bidders, one who hadn't ever been successful, and another who has a fairly low activity count. So the starting price had been met and you would expect a sale.
But is is relisted for the original start price of the first auction.
No explanation. Perhaps the successful bidder wasn't able to do the pickup from the seller.
The seat brand seems a little unusual for the claim of "all original parts".
And the claim of "hand painted no decals amazing" appears to be at odds with the (assumed) decals on the head tube, downtube, seat tube and top tube.
and the grips seem remarkable for their age.
A look through the sellers ebay purchase history sees a purchase from the ebay seller "bicycleworks".
If you do a search for grips with that ebay seller (who hasn't yet worked out where this one is heading?) you get this. So the all original parts might not extend to the "Grips Dragster Glitter Handlebar Lowrider Vintage Retro BMX MTB Bicycle Bike New"

and that saddle is identical to a NOS one from Greece

Maybe a bit of both? I missed out on very rusty old Bullock earlier today with a max bid of $150. Last year one of the same vintage in very good condition went for $22! That one from last year was SA pick only so I just had to watch and weep.

I can understand the interest in that Penny Farthing and the others, but that Two Star, well ..

The two star 'top of the range' Roadstar is about 1968 model. It's condition is above average, but a long way from immaculate.
If I had to put a value on it, I would say $300.00. Tops.
'Tell him he's dreamin' .
The two bids at $3000 plus will no doubt remain a mystery.

It seems that every 'vintage' bike on ebay ranges from 1900 - 2014. It also appears that anything with 'bars that have drops is obviously a 'race bike'. Maybe we should run an eBay education program...

That's been for sale for ages. They keep re-listing it.

but really, that's rubbish. We get none of it because the choices are illusory.

Hmm, the last one, the TREK, is not that far out of the realms of possibility.
Too expensive obviously but come down a couple of hundred... :)

Your Turbo saddles are (hopefully) made by Selle Italia. That one is made by Velo.

How about this one

Probably not a Colnago. Certainly not junk. The front wheel alone is worthwhile.

Certainly interesting but not for the price!

Especially as it seems they were given it/found it in hard rubbish(?).

it claims 531

If you were going to do this surely you would post photos of before....showing the original paint & stickering.

cheap enough Tandem might suit someone. Seems odd. Would ask about the bottom bracket threads.

Worthwhile for someone restoring to post the pics permanently into the malvernstar thread?
