Someone's been playing silly B's with the 531 stickers. Even Dawes were not that slack.... Certainly would be 531 throughout but.

yeah, i'm surprised it's still there (the shogun tourer). looks smallish. maybe too small for genpop

I'm sad. The ride home was all nice and all. But for some reason the bike is in the lower half of 9kg. That's as light as the Cadex and its not even carbon. I don't know why it's so light. Wonder what the frame by itself weighs.

I hope that you and your brother are fairly light. I don't know much about that bike, or how much a similar aluminum bike should weigh. But if its a custom bike, it might have been designed to suit someone light and hence they can shave more weight off sacrificing strength.

My bro is nearing 70kg, and I'm at 60kg. I guess that'll be light enough for a low 50cm frame. It was apparently a female triathlete's old bike, so it should be able to take some hard riding.

The rear wheel has been re laced, but it's great nonetheless, I'm just waiting on a reply for the captain's top tube length. The last tandem I was chasing about 6 months ago sold for $10 over my maximum bid... So this time I'm armed with a tax return.

That's interesting, they were definitely around in 1985/86 cos that was when we had our Swallow built, I thought they had been around a few years before that. The one on e-bay is much later, from the early-mid 90's maybe?

Thanks for that. Hard to believe the Super Galaxy *still* had centre pull brakes in 1984. I already own a late 70s Super Galaxy, so this will be my second (and third?) Super Galaxy! Although the tandem is much better equipped for touring than the 70s model, which lacks bottle braze ons and a proper rack mount. I'd call it more of an overnighter.

Ran out of money after buying and restoring the frame and forks? That's the only reason I can think of for fitting a modern SRAM derailleur, Vader saddle and Quando wheels .

It's one of the branches of MTB evolution that led to a dead end. Museum piece. (Ride it downhill and those forks will shatter in any case )
