Thanks. My bike just got stolen, so guess I'm in the market for a new one! This does look like a pretty nice bike - 55cm might be just a little tall for me as I seem to be comfortable at 53-54cm. Pretty unique though - any thoughts on the frame geometry?TedDancin wrote:Yeah, the bike has been on display in their basement workshop for quite a while, and looks like it's being sold by the shop's eBay account. Looks good jn person. Has been relisted a few times, started at $1000 a couple if months ago.Yankers wrote:The Fosters bike - is it actually being sold on ebay by Clarence Street Cycles in Sydney?

Didn't realise Colnago ever made bikes that bad. It looks like something from Big W circa 1983.im_no_pro wrote:Cheaper than his original listing (linked a couple of pages back)fletch62 wrote:Cheap Colnago anyone?

It is.
Colnago stickers aren't / weren't that hard to get hold of. Many small bike shops used to build up generic gaspipe frames and decorate them with your choice of their own sticker, or whatever other brand you would like.

You've still got time to ask them what standover height is. So many variables, the bottom bracket height can vary. If it's not too high, it'd probably work for you. Geometry looks 'responsive'. To me that would suit, but it may have scared the whatnots out of said Fosters honcho. And being a Geoff Scott, there's no concerns about the builder's credentials.Yankers wrote:This does look like a pretty nice bike - 55cm might be just a little tall for me as I seem to be comfortable at 53-54cm. I think I might just do that - would be good value around the current starting bid imho.frailer5 wrote:You've still got time to ask them what standover height is. No expert on old repcos so can anybody tell me if that black paint just behind the head lugs on the TT/DT is factory livery?

Well, he is probably right. As I've mentioned in other threads, a lot of low-end stuff came out (at least in the UK) with the Merckx name on it. Gaspipe, steel rims, suicide levers and low-end Simplex gears but... they had the Orange (or Blue) livery and the Merckx decals and headbadge. Sold in Halfords and Currys stores in the high street along with car parts and vacuum cleaners...morini wrote:Speaking of Big W bikes circa 1983. There's was a fake Merckx for sale on Gumtree in WA over the last few weeks and I contacted the seller about it. He informed me that he had owned bike shops for 20 odd years and reckoned it was a entry level version. What do you do?
Cheers

Thanks to Rheicel for picking up this bike. Turns out to be more than I had ever expected. Its a Bundy with Columbus tubing(at least the forks are confirmed with a sticker), running mainly 105SC parts. Gonna have it in my hands next week, and lets hope that I can fit it. Looks like 57cm.find_bruce wrote:Worth it for the groupset at least, even though frame looks too large for me, I am in Port Macquarie this weekend too. Diamond in the rough Paconi with 600 EX in WA. Reynolds 653. Weird setup, and that bar tape...
