Heh. :lol:

"From the Malvern Star stable in 1984, the year that the AUSSE 4000m pursuit team won Olympic Gold aboard standard steel framed Malvern Star bikes, beating team USA who where riding state of the art carbon fibre machines. This elevated the legend of these bikes and had everyone dreaming of riding one around."

I wonder if the 4000m pursuit team bikes had kickstands, suicide levers and stem shifters?

"This bike has not been restored!"

But the "mudguards" are on backwards... and the rear brake cable is far too long. No team mechanic would let it out of their shop like that... :roll:

Apparently a Novatec flip flop rear hub is "upwards of $120 on it's own", and he spent $350 on the saddle. The guy needs to learn where to shop.

Do you reckon this frame was a bit small for the seller? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Malvern-Star ... 416ddae9a5" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So if we put aside the deluded ramblings in the description and just look at it for what it is, what do you reckon it's really worth? It's low end for sure but it's also in exceptionally good condition. Maybe $400 on a good day to the right person?

It's very shiny, but with those parts on it I wouldn't pay more than $50.

I would have said $150 might be a bit of a stretch but probably worth it if you really wanted something like that. Note that aside from the brake levers and stem mounted shifters, everything on that bike is steel. Rims, stem, seatpost, handlebars, (cottered) cranks, even the pointless "shorty" mudguards. It is something that was made to a price point, and as such, not sought after by any serious collector. It'd have to weigh close enough to 20kg (if not more), and was the kind of bike that was bought for Form 2 kids to ride to school because it was cheap and looked "racy." It is comparable to a K-mart bike of the day.

A local cafe has a very nicely kept Malvern Star Olympic 12 sitting in the hallway, it is in mint condition - purchase price was $60.

I think Repco had the Olympic 12, Malvern Star had the 10 speed yellow 1980 Moscow Olympic model with a heavy frame partially chromed and dodgy proprietary BB and bottle dynamo/ lights braze ons, and a much nicer LA Olympic model that was a 12 speed with silver paint though still with groupset well under 105 level.

The Himalaya is nice but the guy selling the Shogun road bike is off his tree, "cost $1600", well maybe 15-20 years ago but that doesn't mean it's worth $1200 now.

It is listed as "new" though so you can understand where he's coming from!

I am told this frame is worth a lot of money :shock:

In the right circles, possibly. He must be mates with Mr. Malvern Star.

His definition of "restored" varies quite a bit from what is generally understood.

I think he's definition of professional is likely equally varied.

Wheelie bars. The rider obviously generates so much torque he is lifting the front wheel on every launch.
