Why is it that people get steel frames, rave about the "steel is real" feel and comfort and then deaden it with a plastic fork.

This thread was what I found at the beginning of the year whilst searching for info on my Izoard. Theres a couple links there leading to the Peugeot catalogs(Cycles Peugeot is particularly useful)

I agree, but it is an easy (and 100% reversible) way to lose 500g while also allowing you to go threadless[1]. There are some pretty nice CF forks available for steel frames, eg: Columbus Minimal.

[1]... not that I think threadless headsets belong on vintage steel, mind you. They're quite ugly and tend to ruin the aesthetics... but in terms of pure practicality, I can understand why someone would want to switch.

If a rider is truly worried about weight should they be looking at a steel frame?

For me steel frames are about the tradition, the look and the ride. Certainly not the weight.

Bike weight is really not as important as everyone seems to think. Even the pros tend to ride bike a kg or more heavier than the minimum weight limit - reliable, stiffer, more comfortable, and the weight isn't an issue most of the time.

If your racing and sprinting or climbing its a huge difference, Only people with heavy bikes say otherwise.
Most pros bike are under uci weight and have to add weights in the seat tube

Orbea with 9spd 105 - wouldve thought this would have attracted more attention by now.

If you ride simply because you enjoy riding a bicycle, then that extra two kilos makes a huge difference to your comfort and enjoyment. Only people who need to justify the ridiculous amount of money spent say otherwise.
Most real people are over the BMI and have to lose weight on their bellies.

An article in Ride magazine earlier in the year proves otherwise. Most of the pros bikes are around 7.2kg.

I didn't even know about Singular until I saw this, what a beautiful bike. Asking too much IMO, the build spec is not particularly nice and pre dates the frame. Still, somebody might be willing to snap it up for that, I know Scott was looking for something similar.

I looked at buying one of these about 2 years ago. I'm not a fan of the eccentric bottom bracket.
