You couldn't find a better handlebar position on a Bianchi Ibex.
Busted up Hillman for parts.
I'd get this Cinelli, just for the wheel reflectors.

Hers a reply from the seller of the replica Bianchi.
Were it a carbon or alloy frame that relied on distribution of torque in a very specific pattern yes: the frame would be compromised. Steel distributes torque in a manner such that the frames integrity is maintained. Now I'm not going to say id race on it, and given you've already proven yourself to be the kind of person that's got nothing better to do than pester people from gumtree adds, I shalln't risk you tainting the professional reputations of reputable mechanics. Sorry to have robbed you of what must be one of the few things you do with your time.

Do you think he knows how much of a berk he sounds to someone with even the most basic materials technology knowledge? I can only think that:
(1) He is truly ignorant (and rude).
(2) Option (1) and some mechanic is pulling his leg.
(3) He is !! BAN ME NOW FOR SWEARING !! and making it up as he goes, hoping no-one calls him out.

Any reputable mechanic would put his name to advice he has given or work he has done, supposing these people even exist

I'd go with

Posted this one a while back. Are there any Brisbanites close by this that wouldn't mind checking it out for me? I kinda like the look of it for an off road touring rig.

Look a Raleigh Super Course Mk 2! This is more my style. But . . too small for me at 53cm. Very unloved and would need a total rebuild but the frame looks straight. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/denistone-east/bicycles/classic-raleigh-bicycle/1043652193

Want to own a (not at all retro) track frame which has been ridden by a recently retired world champ? Here's your chance:

Article about the rider in question.

Nice and tight clearances on this frame with 600 SIS bits, and Cinelli stem for only $150. But for the taller dudes at a 58cm frame. Only if it were smaller. Is it the angle or has the bike been front ended? The front end looks very steep.

Probably the wrong place to post, but it seems most of the usual old bike geeks like to frequent this thread...

I have an old derailer I don't need in my life any more. I'm guessing it's early '90s. A bit of an oddball, might be interesting on a retro build.

It's a Sachs Huret Aris Rival Sport. At least, that's all the words that are printed on it.

I'm pretty sure it came into my possession attached to a Bianchi hardtail MTB frame I had for a while. It was one of the very few MTBs I've seen with a 1" threadless headset, which by my reckoning dates it in the early '90s.

No idea whether a Sachs Huret Aris Rival Sport derailer is good or bad... but it's an interesting change from just another fkng Shimano on a retro MTB. The rear pulley cage looks a tiny bit bent, but that could be easily enough fixed with precision hand tools and/or violence.

Any takers before I bin it?

If you're near Wilberforce in NSW on Saturday morning there's a bloke offloading 30 or so old bikes, inc Kenevans, Europa, Malvern Star, Speedwell.

I'm after a 56cm square Columbus track frame if there's one there ;)

I have 3 bikes listing on Ebay starting tomorrow night, a 55cm GEFSCO, a 53cm BUNDY and a 56cm VETTA. All early 90s road bikes.
I will put the links up here when the listings start.
No smart comments please :)

What brakes?

They look like they'd bend under the stresses this thing would subject them to.
I don't care if it's a $20 Huffy or a $20k Colnago, as long as you're riding, and you're happy.

And totally "legal on the road" . Are the rules in ACT that lax? Its not legal in Qld.

There are some states where it would be legal if it was making less than 250W, but absolutely not, no way.
